Re: Project economic JK

Post by MalteJK »

Ok, small update :

they disassembled the 6L80e 3 times completely to change the output shaft.
The day before yesterday they finally got everything now to put it together.

They were really a bit mad about the fab guys who did the shaft ... the transmission consists of 1000s of parts ... and needs
to be sealed, oiled, new gasket and so on, each time of disassembly...

Good news so far for other things :

Hishams idea is to keep the stock engine mounts and all other mounts (transfer case, gearbox and so on ) exactly in the same place and don't do any welding on neither the mounts nor the frame. He will fab brackets, which will be mounted on the gmc side (on the mounting points) and exactly fit into the stock engine mounts. The mounts are strong and good enough for this.
This way also the stock rubber will still remain there.

Also good : the transfer case will be in the exact same place as before - so no problems with driveshaft length and so on : i can still use all aftermarket parts :) (yehaa i can spend more money :D ) .

For the rest of the enforcement :
I'll plan now on getting an old F150 rear axle and let them shorten it so it will have the same width as the jk - and of course let them weld the brackets into the right place.
The old F150 is a Dana 60 axle   - so this should hold it up.

For the front axle i'll let them reinforce it with steel and inner sleeves and gussets. Maybe in addition a chromology axle. If that is not enough and this axle will bend, break whatever. I'll get a pro rock Dana 44 and reinforce this.

I'll leave ring & pinion unchanged for now - because i've a very low 1st gear as well (4:1) ...
Later on the final plan is to get a higher lift and bigger tires.

You can take the Dana 44 Pumpkin from the old rear axle and install Dana 30 tubes on it. That will Basically give you Dana 44 Front Axles !! 8-)

By the way : anyone can point me to good scrapyards in sharjah or mussafah to source a old F150 rear axle ?

OK Update :

THE ENGINE + GEARBOX + TRANSFERCASE is in the car !!!!

yeehaa !

Sry i've no pics yet - next we i'll drive by and take a look :)
Uff great news so far.

Ok what comes now :

They'll change the header from the truck type to the corvette type (flat header, slightly better airflow, lower then the truck type) ..
The day after tomorrow they'll bring it to the exhaust shop for the long tube headers & "muroor muffler" + pipe to the exhaust .
This will take 3-4 days inshallah + fine-tuning the engine afterwords another 3-4 days ...

Maybe ... i only said maybe ... i really can make it to the bbq on my own wheels :D
Whooohoo!

They told me they'll finish tomorrow all the tubes & hoses.
But the engine, gearbox, transfer case mount including building the right connection adapter to the transfer case was the hardest and longest part.

Now mechanically it is connected... This was delaying the whole thingy, because they had to wait for external guys to finish the welding job.

I can tell more, when i was there at the weekend. But for now, this was one of the most important steps..
