Hi Malte,

You're really prepared to $$$$$pend as needed to prepare for the big battle.... LIWA

Reading all this threads makes me wonder WHAT it meant to be offroader... BIG BRAIN... BIG ENGINE....ETC.

I can only think "LITE" -- changing my GXR to VXR soon to catch up the trend. Anyway...

Cheers..... All the best!

dont put musch wight in ur vehicle,,and choose light bumber for desert
I'm not quit sure about the total amount ... for now it's around 45k AED planned for the swap only. But i guess with changing driveshafts, T-case upgrades and HD Axle enforcements i'll easily hit the 55-80k AED ... let's see.

Do you have any recommendations for a light but stable bumper ?
I thought about the xhd modular with side extensions on road, maybe without offroad - depends if i like it then...
But this is only, because i can buy it here locally (icon auto) ...
For a Winch i was thinking about the warn powerplant HD - but i'm unsure if that's a good idea.
Maybe i better get a warn 10k lb winch and an extra onboard compressor (like the dual cylinder arb).

I do no want to only see these 300m dunes and sit in front of them because i'm not able to get up there :D
Sure there's not only a straight way up, and it might be possible, to do it now already (if my driving skills will let me) ...
but to have a bit more power behind the sleeves is always a good idea. Sometimes this tiny little extra punch of power is simply needed
for the last lets say 250m :-) ...
And sure! Go on ... can't be that bad changing it from v6 to v8 on a LC :)

45k for the swap only ... woooow that hurts!
You can get a COMPLETE used low (100k kms is low!) mileage lumina SS or caprice SS with the right engine and tranny for around 15k.
Now engine mounts, rad, fan, hoses, headers, exaust, harness mods etc lats say another 10k-15k. If you run just the chevy ecu you need another 5k for a new dash cluster. (7p will run the old cluster with the original ECU in parallel)
I see ... 7p is taking 15k plus the rest of the lumina/caprice/sierra/colibri/humingbird for their swap work!

interesting to know ...
I am going to ask Hisham how much it will cost IF I bring all the parts needed ;)

The lumina SS you mentioned is the 5,7l engine from 2001 ... i have the 6.2l vvt.
This one is from 2008. The engine is the same as for the yukon, hummer H2 and so on.
It is even the same engine as you can find in a corvette Zr1 - only without the supercharger :) . So i don't think it's that easily comparable.
But sure ... it is a lot of money.

If i would have chosen a 5,7 it would be around 10-15k AED less... But i thought well ok maybe i can build a stroker out of it later on - when i'm unsatisfied .

hm ... if you can talk him into less ... i'd be happy :)

Just for me TJ owner:

first choice a hassle free Vortec 5.3 truck V8 with around 300 hp/ 335 lbf·ft torque paired with the bullet proof and simple 4L60E 4spd auto would be ideal ! (bolt on!)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Vortec_engine#LM7

second choice and the only other hassle free swap would be the Mopar magnum 5.2 with 44RLE tranny or magnum 5.9 with 46RLE tranny.
(cheaper ... really plug and play, even the cluster... disadvantages: less power, weld on mounts)

A new I6 4.7l stroker would cost around AED 18000 ready built in (without new tranny) ... but I have the weak 42RLE tranny ... too much torque for that

The LS1 5.7 engines fit only without AC ... or the frame needs notching (baaaad). (I use the example only to show how cheap the COMPLETE and running cars meanwhile can be)

so ... to be fair compared to a stroker : if I can do a (used!) vortec 5.3 plus (used!) 4L60E for around AED 20k ... then I am in.
Otherwise I am out

Ok ... so instead of getting something done, i broke something first ;) ...

Anyone knows a good front hd driveshaft ? What about Tom Woods or Fabtech ? Anyone had bad experiences with one of these ?

And because louvers are a topic on itself .. i plan on getting one of these :

it's a h2 engine already .. so what

and 2 of these one Image (one left, one right near the window on the hood) - to get the hot air out again ... :)

ah yes ... and tomorrow afternoon i finally will say goodbye to my car (at least as a v6 - car)

For drive shafts, Tom Woods is my only choice, they have been into this business for ages and they know what they're talking about. Their support is awesome. I had once a failure so I contacted them, sent pictures of the broken part so they sent me free replacement after confirming with Quadratec (where I bought the parts from). I only had to pay for Intl shipping.
Did 650 Off Road trips so far (26- Jun-2022) and counting

Fuel consumption : the engine is weak as hell, has only about 300 Nm torque but still needs around 19l / 100km onroad (if driving 130+)
Offroad i can differentiate between slow newbie trips (around 26-29l / 100km) or faster trips ( around 35-40l / 100km)
wow, wish i would get such stats!

Ok slowly it is progressing
Currently 7p builds the adapter from the 6L80e to the transfer case because they use different splines.
The new harness is already in the garage and the new engine sits and waits until it can be finally fitted :) ...

ETA is still 3 weeks :(

there's a hole... :o :o :o :o

whereas before there was a small little funny 3.8l v6
Btw... the engine is still for sale! Anyone just burned his engine, played too much with his supercharger ?

Ok - just to keep the thread updated :

On Saturday i'll take a look again.
The current status is :

While hisham was out of country, they messed the shaft between the tranny and the transfer case 2 times up   hisham was a bit angry about it himself - but told me he has the new shaft since yesterday, so now they can put it all together ... finally!

What is left ? The electricity/ cabling... which will also take a considerable amount of time ... and the exhaust shop ...
Both will take up to 1 week... so altogether approximately 2 weeks still left :( ...

I hope to be able to take some meaningful pics this time...
Now i'm really getting nervous and hope it will go fine in the end    ...
