Meet the Early Brid Trip Report

Post by Uristier »

After a last minute pull out and one no show, 6 cars left the meeting point heading for the Sweihan deflation point. Rune who had a technical problem with his Prado decided staying with us.

A short briefing after deflation and we were off before 6 am. The problem started at dune #1. I crossed the dune and during “landing” I logged the front left tire pop out number one. Tom parked his bumble bee on top of the crest and Rune requested another recovery.

After this technical stop for showing how to handle a tire pop out we continued for a while until my front right tire got off the rim on an almost strait track. Thanks to the previous training it was an issue of minutes and we continued our excursion.

Playing the sand and practising recoveries slowed down the pace. During a time consuming recovery action Astroburn and Frenchy exercised patience. The technical problem with Rune’s car caused him some bad stomach feelings and he decided to take the exit track from the camel farm. :crying:

We continued surfing the dunes in the “fast mode” and everybody did very well. After a short coffee break during which Tom rewound his heavily used winch we stopped at the playground for practising and improving the driving skills.

On our way around the big dune we were forced to look for a diversion as a new erected barbed wire blocked our way. We managed this obstacle to find a new Bedu camp on our way.

Because of the slow “first part pace” we decided to continue (towards Al Nahda Tow). A smooth ride with side sloping and cresting was suddenly stopped when I slipped down sideway and required winch recovery from Tom.

We were back to civilisation safe and sound al Al Nahda Town, inflated and continued to the petrol station to fill up the “coloured boxes”

Thanks to André and Tom for the great recovery work done. It was a pleasure being out with all of you today. I enjoyed your great company and my passenger was impressed. He enjoyed his job as recovery assistant.

Cheers

Sorry everybodu for holding you up with my problems today. I got some very good, and I am sure needed, recovery training but was really happy getting back to the road today. We normally say "it is the driver, not the car"! Today however it was also the car. It was shaking, making expensive noices.and I actually just made it back to Abu Dhabi and will need soime serious service on my car before hitting the dunes agan.
Thank you URS for your help and patience. Thanks to Tom for the recoveries and advise and again thanks to the rest of you folks who had to wait.

Rune
I try harder!

Thanks Uristier for a very entertaining and informational drive. After the early recovery and pop-out lessons we had a nice smooth trip :). You chose some great lines, that allowed us to enjoy the dunes, push the car a little and have fun. As this was only my second trip the the club and only my fourth time in the dessert, I was really pleased to be the only one not to get stuck on the day. I am sure my time will come though. Thank you also for the very informative talk on the dunes and thanks to Tom and Andre for their help and advice throughout the trip.

Hope to see you all again out in the dessert soon.

Astroburn.

Thanks Urs for a fun filled day and interesting route with some strange vehicle stopping and parking. How you get your tyres to pop off to show us what to do remains a mystery. A nice stop to play and good to see everyone give it a go.
