A question specifically fro Russel: You posted the language below describing Oman Insurances definition of off road, and the statement that it does not cover Safari activities. Where did you get this language, I cannot even find this much detail in the policy I have, so i fear that I do not have any coverage off road (while on safari...).

My insurance agent claims there is no further documentation regarding this, and that the simple one line statement in my certificate of insurance that says off road coverage provided is good enough to cover me. I am doubtful...

3.2 Off-Road Coverage
The policy is extended to cover loss or damage to the covered Vehicle while driven off-road.

Specific Conditions

A. This cover is applicable for private Vehicles in the name of an individual and with four wheel drive, off-road capability;

B. The Insured shall bear an Excess of double the Normal Excess stated in the policy Schedule in the event of an admissible off-road claim.

C. The Company will not be liable to pay for any damage if loss and/ or damage occurred during the course of competitive events, safari or if you are carrying passengers as part of a business. Safari activities is the recreation of driving or riding a vehicle on un-surfaced roads or tracks, made of materials such as sand, gravel, riverbeds, mud, snow, rocks and other natural terrain

As to statement C. You don't have off road insurance.

If you just insured your Jeep. Returned it with full refund. They will try to make some deductions. Don't accept as their insurance is not clear,,,, if they are going for deduction say you will take the matter to insurance Authority.

I talked to my insurance agent, and he is telling me that because it doesn't say "no coverage past 10 meters off road" that the coverage is good anywhere off road. I am not happy with that because the insurance company in case of a claim will only give you specifically what the document says you do have. Plus in light of the language that Russel has, which apparently came from Oman Insurance Company, then there is no real off road coverage, just beside the road coverage...

Good advice Gladiator. I paid for this policy one week ago. I have also spoken with AIG and their language seems a little more clear.

I finally found the document that Russel took his quote from. I will attach it here for every ones reference.

In paragraph 3.2 it is pretty clear, there is no coverage on a sand track, even though the words "off road coverage is included" is stated in the policy. Pretty misleading in my opinion, so this should be a heads up for any of you shopping for real off road coverage.

May I suggest to the Forum Moderators that this discussion "Off Road Insurance" and the other discussion "Insurance" be merged, and also there should be a special section link titled "Insurance" for the club members to reference.

I am finding this insurance issue to be quite a mess. I am now reading the policy wordings from multiple insurance companies trying to find true off road insurance that will cover me while on a trip with AD4x4.

1. AIG does seem to have off road coverage, but they don't insure non GCC spec cars (which I have, so this doesnt work for me.)
2. AXA refused to cover me after my car was to old. Not sure of the real age threshold.
3. Qatar Insurance has the following wording in the policy definitions:

Section 10: Off Road Cover
Your car is covered against physical loss or damage due to accident whilst being
driven off road.
Provided that:
• Your car has four wheel drive capability
• You are not participating in a desert safari, ‘dune bashing’ or a competitive race of any kind
• Your car is not used for carrying passengers as part of or in furtherance to business
• Your car is not driven by any person who is less than 25 years age
• Your car is not driven by any person having an UAE License for less than 1 year
• Cover provided under this extension will exclude all failure or breakdown of any
component or deployment of Air Bags without any collision
The insured or his representative shall bear an additional AED 1,000 to the compulsory
excess stated in the Schedule.

4. Oman Insurance: Has the following wording in the policy definitions;

3.2 Off Road Coverage
(SUV with off-road capability only) The following cover will only apply if listed on your Schedule.

The Policy is extended to cover loss or damage to the covered Vehicle while driven off-road.

Specific Conditions
a. This cover is applicable for SUV with offroad capability and for private vehicle of non commercial purpose.
Safari activities is the recreation of driving or riding a vehicle on un-surfaced roads or tracks, made of materials such as sand, gravel, riverbeds, mud, snow, rocks and other natural terrain.

Thats what I know so far.

Gladiator, maybe AIG has changed their policy on non GCC spec auto insurance, because I just spoke with them the other day, and they were very clear that I had to provide them with a photo of the door sticker showing GCC spec compliance, and without it they could not provide coverage.

So for now, I am unable to find true off road insurance through my Insurance broker.

Bulldozer, I will call your recommendations and see what they can give me.
