Hi Guys!

Visited the two places in Dragon Mall where I believe we can buy this essential item: i) Sheng Da Trading Co (BAI01) and ii) China Sunshine Trading (BAE03).

The second shop had three options - any helpful advice about which one to pick, or indeed whether to go for something else entirely?

1. "Kenwood" TK UV3: 7 Wattt UHF/VHF combined, 10km range, frequencies 136-470 - AED 400

2. "Icom" ICV8: 5 Watt with separate UHF or VHF versions, 10km range, frequencies 136-174 - AED 250

3. "Motorola MT777": 5 Watt with separate UHF or VHF versions, 6km range, frequencies 400-470 - AED 200

Clearly, these are rebadged copies rather than originals and the specs are from the store rather than independently checked.

I've been through all the previous posts on this topic and am thinking of getting the "Kenwood", but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I use kenwood copy and never problem. Just make sure chargers work. Also if they have squelcher get one as it's easier to use whilst driving in dunes.

I have not had any problems with my two Motorolas.

Not sure if they are the genuine article or not but I was in Singapore at Motorola dealer and found the same one that I had and could not tell any difference. Still, who would know, they both work.

Just by way of observation, I would not worry too much about range, as the dunes are usually a limiting factor rather than straight line distance.

I got the handset microphone which I clip to my shirt and is out of the way when driving.

Very easy to use once the numbers are programmed in, great battery life and I would buy the same again.

I have had the motorollas for quite sometime and they are doing great!

you should add to the list kangda kd-868 price around 275, I have it for three years with no issues, clear and battery very good
i tried the Moto 777 and didnot like it (went back to Kangda) weak battery and not good signal

We used the Crony's for several years, (about AED 175 - 200) and then switched to Motorolas when the batteries started to go in the Crony's. We had 4 Motorola's die in a few months. We are going back to the Crony's.
