Periodic Maintenance Contracts...Scams or Worth Their Price?

Post by razer »

Hello Everyone,

I was offered a periodic maintenance contract for my FJ today from the Al Futtaim Service Division.

The period is 5k to 60k, and the contract is worth AED 6000.

All parts 45% discount, Labour 15% discount, if the vehicle does require repairs of any nature. Some other parts and equipment are also covered that aren't otherwise covered in warranty...no specifics on that though.

Apart from that, it all looks like it's a ploy to take money up front and lock you into their service plan. Or if that's not the case, then does the maintenance contract turnout to be cheaper in the long run?

Any thoughts?

Hi Razer

It is cheaper to have the contract instead of paying every 5,000KM , however personally I don’t find reason to go every 5,000km since they do nothing but changing the oil and filter. You can make the 5k change of oil and filter in ADNOC and the 10k in Al Futtaim then it will become cheaper.
If you decided to do the contract any way, they accept the payment in 3 installments and by credit card to reduce the burden of paying AED 6k in one go.

Razer,
you have to calculate it copared to the amount you are going to pay if you go to regular maintenance every 5000 km. putting into consideration after how many years your car will reach 60000km. one , two or maybe 3 years if you are not travelling for a long distance everyday. I do recommend that you make the maintenance regularly with the dealer only because if you do not and something goes wrong they will tell you that happened because you have taken the car elsewhere.
generally service centers are doing this to raise funds for themselves, they will take money from you and some other customers, put in a bank deposit and receive interest on it but the process is not always in favor of customer, then you have to calculate it and decide.

I did the same contract for my furtuner it is called "maintenance contract" in Toyota I think it is the best and it will save up to 3000 Dhs plus the spare parts discount. I think it is the best way to save your car. Go for it Razer

Thanks guys! Decision made.

Took the contract, and also took the installment option as suggested.

Thanks!

Kalemero,

Can you buy from Al Futtaim and get the contract from Dynatrade? I think that will void the warranty no?

Also, why do people bring their cars from Oman?

When I checked the prices of cars in Oman and compared them to Dubai prices, there was hardly any difference in the price.
