Yeah I know this place, last time I used it they took the whole top coating off a brand new Warn bumper on my Wrangler, never again, but thanks anyway.

Try off roading on the UK in particular a route called Strata Florida in Mid Wales you cross a river about 5 times plus i think its 16 fords and its can be deep (over the bonnet) especially in the winter, or even Violets Lane, Cambridge (longest ford in europe) you are basically driving down a river! Done both had water over the bonnet on both and signs of water on top of the engine after both, so don't see how washing and engine is a problem.

What i would say though my Landies in the UK all had the engine electrics water proofed for that sort of off roading, out here on the other hand my Landy has no water proofing so I would probably think twice about attacking a V8 with water.

When i grew up as a kid in Kuwait i remember dad having the engines cleaned at a Street of a Thousand garages in Fahaheel and they used to use and open ended air hose and parafin to spray it over the engine and then an air hose to dry it off

I used to drive Rally car back home in NZ we had to protect electrical parts of the car as some rallies there was a lot of water. All that we did was use silicon on all electrical components to water proof them it is not very often that you remove the ECU or any component like that so waterproofing the main electrical components could be an option, up to the individual

Bringing this thread back from the dead.

Don't get your FJ washed from underneath. It seems that the propeller shaft's grease gets washed off. And because of that you get the now famous FJ lunge.

The FJ lunge is the jerk you get a few seconds after coming to a relatively quick halt. The lunge is well documented, and if you do have one then ask your dealer to grease the propeller shaft properly.

To avoid the grease from getting washed out, don't get the FJ washed from underneath.
