Once again Sweihan ADV
Emre (SandSailor): Lead
Marshal Serkan (Serkan): 2nd Lead
Gerhard (Dingo)
Chris (cmj1388)
Dan (Dan29)
Ilker (denizci)
Rick (RickSpeight)
Ozgur (Ozzy) Sweeper
Marshal Ahmed (JustAhmedo) Floating Support
We all met at the deflation point around 8am apart from Anvar who couldnt join. We were in total 9 cars including Marshal Ahmed, Marshal Serkan, Ozgur, Ilker, Rick, Chris, Dan and Gerhard. Deflated, had the briefing (we had Dan, Gerhard and Ilker, our newer drivers in ADV club so had the briefing in more detail than usual), channel set and convoy formed. Kindly asked Marshal Serkan to be my 2nd lead, Ozzy Sweeper, Marshal Ahmedo as floating support.
We started rather slow, but it became a complete standstill with 3 stucks within first 10 mins. Started with Gerhard, then I got stuck at the top of a crest while going back to see and then Ozgur next to me while coming for my help. Team recovered Gerhard, snatch recovery for Ozzy and I manage to self-recover. After this “welcome to Sweihan” greeting, we found our tempo and there were only two more stucks in the next 3.5hrs. We did as much switching, cresting, side sloping, descends and climbs as possible. Tried to set the pace right for the convoy so it was rather smooth sailing afterwards save for some 2nd tries. M.Ali dune was a bit of a fun as we had some 2nd tries but the entire convoy did pretty well overall. We continued the same tempo until the gatch, then decided to hit Nagrah for our coffee break and more fun at the big dune. Nagrah was a lot of fun with Ahmedo and Serkan also taking the convoy for a few good runs with different tries. Then came the treat from Ahmedo; freshly brewed coffee with great chitchat where we enjoyed the company of each other despite the wind which started to pick up. Then headed for the exit after almost 4hrs of driving.
Buldozer tracks seem to be healing and although didnt create major problems, it made me jump in one occasion where I totally missed it as it was almost impossible to detect. Still need to be aware and take care if driving in the area. Luckily there were no other convoys and not many tracks so I can say we had a good run overall.
However, we had an incident during our stop at M.Ali as Dan’s JKU rolled freely and hit mine from the back while we were parking. Somehow it didnt switch to P and given the downhill parking position, it rolled freely after he left it. We were very lucky that no one got hurt. Only some damage to both cars. But it is a very good reminder to everyone that we have to use hand break all times and park next to each other if possible, especially in downhill spots. As my tailgate and tire carried got damaged, we moved the spare to Ricks truck for the rest of the trip for safety (thanks again Rick).
Thanks to all for joining and great company. All drivers did pretty good overall, especially the novice ones coped up well, despite some mistakes and high adrenaline occasions, which will only get better with more experience. Ozzy did superb as Sweeper and also as a driver coping with both Marshals during the private run. also Rick, with his Raptor and immaculate control of that raw power- (to an extent at times borderline showoff) also coping with both Marshals, as well as Chris who showed his experience in all occasions. Ilker included as he showed great control and his experience with his Gladiator, with very solid driving throughout.
All in all, some real good fun with great company and time well spent.
Eid Mubarak to all and see you again on sand soon…
