Who wants to be the first AD4x4 Lady Marshal?

Post by iguana »

Ok ladies, your number is increasing in the club ... and as we are a family club not an ONLY BOYS club, there are lots of talking in the committee to have a Lady Marshal ... so here is the deal:

An AD4x4 Marshal is a person who have the ability, knowledge, experience, driving skills, navigation skills, mechanical know how, GPS knowledge, recovery skills and a strong personality to lead. He / she should have the ability to handle difficult situations and deal with different personalities / nationalities in the club.

An AD4x4 Marshal is also a committee member. Club committee is the management of the club which makes sure that everything is managed well, members are happy, club is active, new ideas, members upgrade and all the club decisions and announcements are done based on the committee's recommendations.

An Ad4x4 Marshal should be active on the website, active on trips and is willing to spare enough time for the club. It is a voluntary job. However, a Marshal should be fully responsible for his title in the club and should work hard to maintain it. A non active Marshal loose his title and is downgraded to an Explorer if he did not organize at least one trip every 2 months.

An AD4x4 Marshal is a representative of the club and should be able to bring more members and help in making this club grows more and more ...

So if you think that you have most of the above, or willing to learn all of the above, we will help you to be the first lady Marshal in AD4x4. (I think there are no lady Marshals in any of the UAE Offroad clubs)

A special Marshal one to one training will be given to the volunteered lady .. We will start enhancing all the skills required for a Marshal, after ensuring that you have the minimum requirement, we will ask you to organize and lead part of the trip till we are sure that you can handle all the situations and meet all the requirements ....

If you love cars, willing to get your hand dirty with grease and sand, want to go for this fun, have enough time to spend, please post your name and will take care of the rest ..

It is not an easy thing to be a Marshal, I think most of you can see that our Marshals are really working hard in each trip to make it successful ... so come on girls, register over here and lets start the training

Not forgetting FreeSpirit and Tutan - these ladies and HummerGirl have a lot more trips and experience!

Thanks for the vote PoloGuru - as a thought we could all do the course together - why go for one, AD4x4 could be the first group with 5 lady marshals :!: Probably be easier to train us all as one group?

Great to see the club thinking about this - ISA it happens.

I would be very interested Iguana in doing this.

As for mechanical information, I have learnt a lot from Lucknow :-)

Please let me know the details!

Ladies this is not a game. training a marshal takes lots of effort and tiem. so the 'lets all do it' does not work. we need ladies who are willing to spend time and effort to be a Marshal.

HG, I will send you a PM today

Thats why I have not put my name forward... I might be ready next year... in the meantime I will see how the Marshalls do it and learn by watching.... I think we all know that this is a very important part of the club...

I am an advanced dive instructor in both PADI and BSAC and have marshalled over 400 dive trips - Marshalling is taken equally seriously in the diving world, and it takes many months to qualify .... it the the Marshalls who take the rap if a dive trip  goes pear-shaped ...

so... I think your point is valid, but was anyone suggesting it was a game? !!!!! !

To list ONLY few things expected from Marshals in our club:

- Good planning skills based on the terrain and trip level
- Proper leading skills
- Organisation and coordination
- Advanced GPS knowledge
- High level of sand/offroad driving skills
- Sense of responsibility and maturity
- Communication skills
- Should carry comprehensive recovery tools and some extra mechanical tools for emergencies
- Advanced level of recovery techniques

Above all should be in love with AD4x4 club
Did 650 Off Road trips so far (26- Jun-2022) and counting
Proud to be AD4x4 Marshal.......

Sorry Iguana - I did not & do not take this as a game - apologies if my comment came across as such. I appreciate the time and effort you guys must put into the club is tremendous.

I would very much be interested in being a marshal, one day - as PoloGuru says it is not something that we should expect to achieve overnight.

There is a lot to learn... can fly a plane, can ride a bike, can ride a horse, can sail a boat.... there is still plenty of time to learn the MOST important thing in life with the encouragement of AD4WD :D :D :D :D

Anyway, thanks everyone for the encouragement... Iguana and the Marshalls

I would also suggest my wife HummerGirl as a serious contender and she has my support. I believe that she has the qualities you are looking for. She is sensible and has a good knowledge of cars, the sand and off road driving (mountains in Australia), both here and in Australia. She has introduced a few people already to the site who have become active members (Tutan and Pologuru come to mind) and I think she will continue to get more ladies out and about in the desert.
