Go Pro Video Dilemma!

ok so I have the HERO 2 edition go pro and can happily mount on my wee beastie it to film my epic adventures in the sand.....apart from the unit over heating and the battery running out at lightening speed I now have a realized issue that I can't upload the videos anywhere on the internet to share them. I have only managed one so far on Facebook and that took about 6 hours......I understand that it could be the site i'm using so have tried a few, Youtube, picasa web albums, vimeo and Facebook but all of them take a week or time out and refuse to upload them. I have also tried on two different networks (one home & Du and the other Etisalat and work!), I have the settings on the camera as low as I can (without the old quality compromise) and the videos are not longer than 10 minutes, even the shorter 2 or 3 minute ones take an age.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

thanks muchly!

Our video gurus are Khaiwi, Waqmaster and now Scotchyl and they all seem to be able to load stuff up. I think Waqmaster uses vimeo.

Am sure one of them will be along in a minute to give advice and guidance.

the only thing i can tell you is that you should edit your video with Corel. Then, it's piece of cake.

Hi there, along to assist.

I get the videos all compiled together and then edit them using windows live movie maker.

Realistically you can only put up videos of about 10 to 15 minutes if you want it to download reasonably quickly. (my profile is scubashark79 on youtube) the video i put up following wasabi was about 15 minutes long and took about 75 minutes to upload to youtube. it was in HD but when i saved it there is options as to how much you want to compress the file.

Another option would be like tillybean and xof mention is use either vimeo or coral to edit the video before uploading. Alternative is to reduce the r rating on the video from say 5 (HD) to say 3.

On the internet, i think we are on a good package so that may make uploading easier and quicker.

hope this helps if not drop me a pm and i will try help.

First, you need to cut & edit your videos. The most exciting off-road driving turns boring quickly if you don't keep your videos short and cut from scene to scene to keep the action going. 10 minutes is a looong time, in my opinion.

Second, 10 mins of GoPro native footage is probably a GigaByte? You won't be able to load that on Vimeo or YouTube so you'll need to save your final cut with a different video file compressor. Try Windows Media 9 for a start.

Good luck and please post the link once you have uploaded the clip(s)

i used to use corel video studio, but now switched to adobe premier pro and its much more flexible. I normally render to HD avi and then upload to vimeo, i have the freebie account so 500mb limit per week for upload. It has been enough for me. I prefer vimeo over youtube because it doesnt stop you from adding background music.

As sabastian said, shorter videos are the best 3-5 min long max.

I watched the first 2 min of scotchyl's video :P on average his videos are 10000000 hrs long :D

As for battery, get a battery pac, and you can charge that in your car. Desert_hawk does that, but im lazy and have 3 go pro batteries.

My battery bac pac will last with HD recording for a 4 hour trip. then recharge at lunch etc for the next leg. you get 12v double usb charger with it. also if you have a 32gb card you can get several trips on a single card. but it does drain the battery moreso.

no neither do i, its like the chargers you get for say a mobile phone, but in the back of it are two usb points which can be connected to the camera batteries. will post a picture later today to show as camera is at home. http://gopro.com/camera-accessories/auto-charger/

i use imovie for it - and its quit nice. No problems on uploading on youtube / vimeo either way (but i prefer vimeo due to less "audio filtering" ... so i can put the music i like on it ) ...

My HD2 didn't go of till now due to overheating. And i also got a 2nd battery + 32gb card. The only problem i have is the huge amount of video you produce in short time ... so a lot of videos to cut & edit...

I got the extra battery pack, but never used it the way I should, what I'm doing is I'm using the LCD all the time with a fully charged battery, while the other one is being charged in the car, this will last me an hour with high quality recording, then swap the battery and do the same, in general, 1 hour is more than enough to charge an empty battery to full.
I ran 2 trips per day for few times, and believe it or not, the 32 GB was not enough, I ran out of memory on the 2nd trip, so now I got a spare memory card just in case.
As for editing and posting, still haven't reached there yet, had software problem and busy schedule, hope to sort it out this week, if so, you will have good bunch of videos to watch.
But I still think that Waqar has the best video editing sense, and I still remember my 1st lead trip, he compiled the video in a nice professional way.
