Bu Tais Adventures Vol 5 - Trip Report

Post by PearlyGates59 »

This trip report covers a wonderful Newbie trip to Bu Tais on Friday 7 December PM.

Everyone met on time at the deflation point; a couple of drivers sadly couldn't make it and let me know in good time. Thanks Irfan and Ahmed and I hope to see you in the dunes soon.

After the safety brief we set off. One of the great things about Bu Tais is that from the meeting / deflation point you are immediately into some beautiful scenery. Convoy order was as follows:

Red Baron (Christian) (Second Lead)
Keri (Ceri)
Youngamerican (Brian)
Fiona (Fiona)
Owlsey (Mark)
Kamran143 (Kamran)
Kannan (Kannan)

In the sweeper role we had Marshall Fidodido; thankyou so much Amr for your support and help. It's always a real pleasure driving with you.

Also in a floating support role was Rogue One (Martin) in his first and last drive as an Expert before he heads back to Austria. Thankyou my friend - I'll miss your winch!

I think everyone enjoyed the area! Bu Tais is an amazing place to visit and works well for Newbie trips. We had a nice varied track which included some technical areas, steep descents and steep climbs, and some nice fast sweeping dunes to stretch our legs over. I varied the pace throughout the trip to give the drivers a chance to experience a variety of techniques and terrain.

All the drivers did very well and showed increased confidence and skill as the drive progressed. We had a number of second tries and stucks on one particular straight crest which gave us the opportunity to practice both winching and snatch recoveries, and also gave us some great teaching points to discuss.

We made the halfway point on the drive in an hour and a half, and leaving the afternoon sun to our backs we returned to the inflation point at just past 5pm; 3 hours of driving and 45kms covered!

In all I had a wonderful afternoon in brilliant company. Bu Tais is such a fantastic area, but what really made the afternoon special was the great people - good company, keen to learn and improve their skills, all of whom showed great control over their cars and communicated very well. Thankyou all and see you again in the sand very soon!

Thanks Matt for this amazing trip and the opportunity to be your second lead. Coming down from Dubai was definitely worth it and I hope that there will be a Vol 6 soon.

Thanks

Thanks Matt for leading a fantastic trip. Bu Tais is just gorgeous, thanks for sharing it with us! I learned loads on the drive, really got know my Jeep a bit better (especially on that final crest!) and definitely look forward to Vol. 6 😎

Many thanks Matt for organizing and leading the trip! Couldn't think of a better location for my final drive. All drivers did very well and I think all enjoyed the change of terrain compared to the usual driving spots.

Now it's about time you get a winch for your raptor I guess :D
