This trip was originally planned to be advance level. However as only one driver was signing up I decided to change it to intermediate level. However, there was a technical issue and intermediates trying to register were told they can't join the trip. In the end one intermediate driver couldn't be deterred and joined the trip by contacting me directly.

After a pleasant night of camping Steve came early and met us at breakfast. We decided that Mikkel would take the lead and I was sweeper. We headed to the area North of the gatch road and Mikkel found a very nice and flowy track for us. The sand was in parts very soft. I took over the lead for a while and Mikkel was sweeper.

We continued to crisscross the area until we decided to start with the exploratory leg of the trip heading towards unchartered territories and to exit through the next gatch road to the North about 11 km away as the crow flies.
The terrain became much more technical and tight, with lots of bushes and dead wood. It was very challenging particularly for the long wheelbase truck but also very beautiful. We had to go around many dunes and find crossing points as we couldn’t side-crest and wanted to avoid straight-cresting.

Mikkel again took the lead and miraculously found all the hidden and secret pathways to guide us safely through the dunes. After 25 km of flowy tracks and another 25 km of exploration we hit the gatch road at about 12:00 h, inflated and made our way home.
Mikkel leading and Steve as the convoy both excelled in their roles. We had just a few stucks and second tries - mainly due to the exceptionally soft sand and tight and technical areas we went through.

It was a memorable trip not the least because we spotted two baby gazelles crying for their mom.
