Hameem Road to Al Quaa Milky Way Sport / Intermediate / 19 Nov ’22 (Convoy #2)
Posted: Tue Nov 22, 2022 10:31 am
All drivers meet at the ADNOC Petrol station in Al Fayadha and drove to the deflation point, where the drivers prepared for the drive and received the briefing.
The group was split into two convoys, with convoy number 2 setting off at 12:45.
The plan was to go south/east in an arch to reach the pre-agreed meeting point at the half-way point. The sand was very soft and technical challenging, with lots of small dunes and it was difficult to find a smooth track, so had numerous stucks and 2nd tries that required recovery – thank you to the 2nd lead for the endless effort of recovering the drivers!
After a 3 hours drive, the convoy had only covered half the distance to the meeting point and the Lead decided to alter route and head towards a nearby gatch road to ensure everyone would be able to make it out of the sand before dusk. As we got nearer the gatchroad, the sand become harder and more open, which provided an opportunity for 30 min relaxed cruising, with some good pace practising side sloping on medium sized dunes.
We meet up with Convoy #1 at 17:00 ish, where we all drove to the Milky Way spot where the trip ended.
All drivers did well!
Thank you for arranging the drive, Shaju.
