Law of Gravity intermediate++ convoy 6/2/2022

Post by JustAhmedo »

We all met on time at the deflation point. We were supposed to be about 24 cars and we had last minute cancellations and thanks guys for informing me.

Explorer: Osama and Myself
Expert: Shaju
Advance: Mahmoud and Davor
Intermediates: Abdullah, Ahmad Bitar, Mike, Gerhard, Dion, Hashim, Nader, Shiroy, Deborah and Carlos.
(Apologies in advance if I missed anyone)

Thanks to Osama for joining my trip on short notice just to support and split the convoy. True leader.

Osama, Please share your trip for your convoy.

We split the convoy into two and I took the more experienced drivers.

The trip name was “law of Gravity” and I explained to my convoy the most important rule about gravity and we had our briefing after introducing ourselves to each other, we set the convoy order as follows:

Ahmed (lead)
Abdullah (2nd lead)
Ahmad Bitar
Mike
Gerhard
Dion
Davor (sweeper)

We started in a very technical area at al Khatim near the stables and we had one stuck were and Gerhard did the recovery smoothly. We continued our trip in the technical area and practiced controlling the speed and handling in tight area.
We had few 2nd tries and I got stuck ( was driving the jeep  ) and Abdullah recovered me. We continued the technical area and members showed great improvement and we hit the gatch road and went to and open area and started practicing side sloping on small dunes. Everyone performed really well and we increased the pace faster and went on a snake track until we reached the Al Khazna area. It was around 4:45 and everyone agreed to extend the trip a little more instead of finishing by 5:30.
After watching everyone performing really well without any drifting and making good decisions and turning down, We started going on a roller coaster track and we continued for a long time. After a short break, Some members practiced climbing with 4Lo and we practiced climbing big dunes which were flat on top.
It was almost getting dark, so we started heading back to the deflation point and met with the other convoy.

We covered 65km in 4 hours and the trip was a mix of technical and big side slopes.

Thanks Everyone for joining, I really enjoyed the trip with you, hope you all did the same.
Thanks to
Abdullah for being a strong 2nd lead especially in the technical area. You had good confidence and always focused behind me
Ahmad Bitar - excellent driving and good handling especially on big side slopes
Mike - Great improvement along the trip. You’ve gained confidence in yourself and your car and good self recovery.
Gerhard - you’re an amazing driver with good experience. Hope to see you more with the club
Dion - excellent in handling your car and made good decisions.

Thanks to Davor for being an excellent sweeper, watching over the convoy, recovering and frequently updating.

Hope to see you all soon.
Until then, Stay Safe.
Just Ahmed.

Dear Ahmad,

First of all thank you very much for organizing the trip. I think this is one of the best and most learning trips I have been and seen as we practiced a lot of technical dunes where knowing the tracks and cars matter because 1 meter of the track and the car would get stuck in technical which helps the driver to understand the car better.

A part from that you gave the best advise which was "Guys be prepared while coming down from side slops if there is a bush you should be prepared to handle the situation."

I have been driving pathfinder for quite some time and in side slops when i slightly loose control I let the car drift (Purposely) knowing I can control it when it reaches down. But with you I learned to manage the drift. I learned the excat power to be given to the car (I usually advise newbies that in desert we have to control the car not the car controlling you.) I was weak in the that part But i am more confident now.

I belive from technical drives to side slops and controlling your speed when coming down of side slops and managing the cars power while coming down matters we learned a lot more than what words can write here.

Looking for more fun and challenging trips with you.

Have a great week.

Thank you Ahmed for leading a fantastic trip that required concentration all the way. Nice to mix up the very technical and the fast flowing curves. Great to learn about the cars capabilities from the trip and chat too.

Thank you, Ahmed, for allowing us to join your trip and share the lead on short notice! :amigo:

Shaju and I took the second convoy, which consisted of:

Shajumon (main lead)
Carlos
Deborah
Hashim
Nader
Shiroy
Mahmoud (sweeper)
ossme (side support/part lead)

Since we had some new Intermediates, we gave a more detailed briefing to cover the basics of side sloping.

We started slowly to ensure everyone was comfortable with the level of the trip. Then we moved to the technical area. Despite the pop-out and a couple of stucks and second tries, the team did outstanding. After that, we decided to move the open area in Khazna and try larger side sloping on a faster rhythm.

The trip was scheduled to finish at 5:30 pm, but the group decided to extend the drive until 6:00 pm.

Overall, everyone did great, and we had great fun and returned safely! ^_^

Special Thanks to Shaj for the excellent leadership and Mahmoud for the tremendous support.

See you all in the sand!

Thank you Ahamed for arranging this trip. Special thanks to Osama for allowing me to lead the second convoy. It was a great experience and never felt any fear since one of the best leader was with me. I gained lot of confidence to lead less experienced convoys. Thank you Carlos for being wonderful second lead. Mahmood was outstanding as sweeper. All drivers did exceptionally well. Enjoyed the trip very well. Thanks to Ahamed and Osama for your valuable tips and appreciation after the trip.
See you all soon.
