Regear 4.88 vs 5.13

Post by Saracen »

I want to regear to 4.88 or 5.13.

Any recommendations to which regear should I go to for the long run.

Jeep JKU running 35in tires.

I know for rock crawling and such 4:88 is great, more torque and decent RPM on highway. Running bigger tires effects your RPM at highway speed. Running a bigger gear 5:13 you will get more low end torque and power but your RPMs will be screaming at even 120KPH. so it really depends on what you are using your Jeep for. I currently have 4:10 on 315/70 R17 I have decent power when I need it and not great but acceptable for me gas mileage.

I think I am heading towards 4.88. my rpm is close to 2900 when I am driving around 118 km/hr. Hopefully the regearing will decrease the rpm at that speed

I recommend referring to a final drive ratio table. According to the one I'll post below, it seems like 4.56 or 4.88 will be the best balance between power and efficiency.

The following website is a great source of info for tire size vs gear ratios.
