Another Classic restoration project

Post by iguana »

I am still on my VW Convertible project ... All my parts are ready and will start work after eid ... It should not take more than 2 months to complete. However, I came across a nice classic now, and I am itching ... An Oldsmobile Super Golden rocket 88 Convertible 1952 model.

The car is in Egypt and the restoration will be done there

The body is in a great shape, all chrome is there but ofcourse needs restoration, convertible roof and Interior needs to be replaced. Engine is in running condition.

What do you think, shall I do this after the beetle?

This is how a restored car will look like

Nice! My dream would be an old Chevy pick-up truck, like a '57, or a Corvette.

Good luck in both Projects Islam, am sure both will look fabulous, I suggest to start with the Oldsmobile 88 since it is in better condition & you might finish the project in short time :geek:

@9ball ... There is one corvette stingray convertible 1962 model in egypt ... Trying to convince the guy to sell it

@jayne it will be cheaper to invite u to egypt than transferring the cars here

@Abo Ghazi i am still thinking of the idea ... The beetle parts are ready

The Olds in the picture looks amazing.

I love perfectly restored old cars!

The beetle is more daily drive capable than the Buick though ... don't ditch the Beetle idea! (I still see the race bug pic in my mind.)

The Olds is a very nice show car ... which might need more attention to keep engine and transmission alive and reliable?

Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.

Muzammils, the my source of classic cars are in Egypt but the problem is that you cannot take them out of Egypt, it's considered as rare pieces of arts ... Where do you want the car? there are a lot of cars in UAE and ofcourse the internet is full of classic cars.

If you want a car in Egypt, I have a full list of convertibles  a karman ghia 196X, Thunderbird 1962, VW beetle 1970, rolls royce 1948, cadillac 1956, Corvette 197X (T top), peugout 304 197X ... Everything have it's own price and in a different condition and I know who can do the restoration job as well ...

You have to know that restoring a car might take more than one year to finish, depends on availability of spare parts

For the oldsmobile, I will keep it and start restoring it after I finish the beetle

Hi Islam, I want a car delivered in the UAE, even if the origin may be somewhere other than the UAE. I am seeking a good sound model; either a 1968 Mustang GT or a 1977 Corvette. In other words, one of the classic Muscle Cars.

Could you please help me with a few tips regarding where to look and pointers on where to search and what to look for? Another option is to import a car from the United States but I am concerned about UAE Customs and the fact that I might not be allowed to import a classic vehicle due to the five (5) year age limitation. . Also, a few tips on how and where to look.

Thanks,
Muzammil

Hi Muzammils, great idea!

Try talking to a friend of mine who deals in muscle car imports viz mustang and charger. He may be able to help you.

I will PM his details.

Anything above 25 years is considered a classic car and can be imported.
