Trip Report Bu Tais 26 June -20

First club trip after covid restrictions were lifted. In 47 degC, following enthusiastic drivers met up for an Intermediate drive at Bu Tais gate 16:00 PM:

Myself (tompa-bjorka)
Scoozy (Raul)
Mytommi (Thomas)
Udo
Miro (Amir).

(Second convoy was lead by Mark (loefflmj1) and separate report will be posted).

After short brief, we took off with Scoozy as 2nd lead and Miro as sweeper. As it was a very hot afternoon the pace of the drive was low to avoid overheating of cars and drivers, this tactic was successful. Unfortunately, we were surprised by big activity going on in the area, apparently the government is performing a large scale geological survey and we found many tracks recently made by bulldozers and that made it very difficult and sometimes bit dangerous to navigate through (see https://youtu.be/2tRsk9tKhes). Anyway, we managed to get couple of hours of nice driving through the dunes and watched the sun set together with Mark’s second convoy before heading back over the sabkha. Drivers did well, few second tries as the sand was very soft here and there. Thanks to Scoozy 2nd lead that had to change the track few times when I got in to a bit of trouble, and Miro as sweeper. The two Germans (that don’t drive Mercedes or Porsche, but Japanese cars) were in the middle of the convoy with a very stable performance.
