Hot Night in Badayer

Post by petro »

This trip started off well, we met in Badayer shops at 4 and Bulldozer determined it would be a good day for Serkan to try leading. We had a debriefing, deflated, and then set off.

The convoy order was Serkan, Petro, Johnathan, Sinan, Sinan and Bulldozer was at the back looking over the group. We started off following small crests all the way to the east fence and then headed from the fence over to the super bowl. Serkan led a good track that was challenging with cresting but not pushing our vehicles too hard.

We had a few stops in the heat, Johnathan got his Patrol stuck and we practiced recovery, and it was a fairly simple advanced drive. Until we reached the superbowl... At the superbowl we all played a little bit and the sun was setting, so we setup for some nice pictures. And then Serkans FJ died.

We spent a bit trying to diaganose the problem and found that probably the fuel was not pumping. So then we began the effort to recover the FJ from the desert. We were in the super bowl and had to get to the other side to recover. In order to this we had to head in the wrong direction. It took about two hours of traveling East and we made it only about 1km. So we plotted an exit back to the west. About two hours later we ended up 100 m from where we started :dash1: :dash1:
We plotted a path back to the exit, took another break, made another attempt to fix Serkans car, and then headed out for the last part of the recovery. We had a few more stucks, one where Serkan was at the bottom of a bowl of soft sand. At this point our group came together, we hooked up 3 vehicles and pulled him from the bowl and then had a brief celebration. From there it was literally all down hill. We had a few more stucks from Bulldozer pulling Serkan, but it moved quickly from then on. We found a gatch road and made it up to the highway at about 1:30AM.

Sai, Carlo and Melvin had tried to find us in the desert to support the recovery, but they were not able to reach us on the phone to find our location. However someone was able to get a hold of them at the end, so they came and met us with cold water and watermelon juice that tasted amazing after our 5 hr recovery effort. We inflated and returned. Thank you Sai, Carlo and Melvin for the support.

A big thank you to Bulldozer, Johnathan, Sinan and Sinan and the two in the Jeep Cherokee for your patients and support in recovering Serkans FJ.

The day started well however it ended up with a huge memory that can not be forgotten.

Kevin was the trip Marshall, however Bulldozer asked me to lead the convoy to make some practises, thanks for that! We started well with the small dunes and did many side cresting, there were some stuck and second trials. All were fine until we reached to the super bowl. We started to play there, I headed to the top of the dune and came down to the bowl. In my second try from the other side, the track was a bit bumpy and I was climbing to the top, suddenly engine stopped! I immediately managed to change the direction to the down and moved little bit. The vehicle got stuck since the sand so soft! there was no any emergency situation on the position that my vehicle stopped. I did a lot of trials to run the engine but unfortunately, it did not run! Hence I asked help on the radio, Bulldozer and the others came to help me first we moved the vehicle to the flat area since we thought that it can be due to safety system in the vehicle doesn't allow us to run it. we tried on the flat surface but it was not getting on. The last option was the pulling out the vehicle to the road.

Adventure started..... I would like to thanks to everybody for big efforts, Especially to Bulldozer (Big Boss). He pulled me all the way 5-6 hours until to the petrol station on the road. There was a big coordination and support even the club members who were not in this drive came to the area to help, some of them gave the call and asked me for their support to bring the mechanic / parts etc......Huge thanks to all.

That was the proof of WE NEVER LEAVE SOMEONE BEHIND/

Sai & MD tried to drive to the place where we stuck but due to communication issues we couldn't reach to each other, in many of the places there was no any mobile phone coverage.

it took 5 to 6 hours to reach to the road. then Carlo, Sai and Melvin came with refreshments

I will never forgot this drive!

Thanks to all again
