Trip: Khonquering Khazna Advanced 28-Sept

We did it, we Khonquered Khazna! We all met at the Khazna Farm deflation base camp on time and in good spirits for what lay ahead of us. As Lead, I welcomed our teammates, thanked them for their service in AD4x4, and continued with the safety briefing and our attack strategy. The convoy order was set up as me Lead, Ajesh second lead, then Petro followed by our sweeper, Flaghunter. After our radio check, we set off on our mission, heading north on the gatch.

We entered the big dunes in the northwest portion of khazna just east of the north-south running gatch road. We could have stayed in this sector all day but our objective dictated otherwise. We continued east and came face to face with a convoy of local beasts with humps, there had to be at least 40 of them being driven from behind by a lone-cloaked figure. Our embedded tourist took advantage and performed some photographic reconnaissance. We could not linger and before we knew it, made it to the trees for some rest and relaxation as well as some reflective discussion on our pace, methods and technique. Good lessons learned and feedback for this leader to absorb. After this we got underway, heading east but our progress was slowed by poor unclean terrain. We perservered and made it to the large bowl area of Khazna. Here is where the real offensive action took place. Unfortunately, progress was halted due to two crest stucks, however, recoveries were safe, efficient and quickly performed. True professionalism exhibited.

Time was becoming a factor as our tourist had to be extracted from the country. Petro took the lead as his knowledge was specialized in the upcoming segment. I took second lead and our field Marshal remained as sweeper. After Petro methodically and gallantly led us to more familiar territory and through some narrow passages and barbed wire, I once again took command and moved quickly between the dunes discovering an area that for sure we will need to go back to under better circumstances. We were in the homestretch now, as we approached the north exit point in the eastern part of Khazna, we saw the gate to a harder surface, Rt.16. Mission complete. All safe and sound.

Thank you Marshal Flaghunter for your leadership and willingness to support with likely very little rest the evening before. Thank you Petro for your support and guidance. Ajesh, although quiet at times, pulled his weight and more, performing well and keeping pace.
