Why would we change our 2011 JKU for a 2015 JKU Rubicon

Post by DesertDriver »

Hi,

We are considering selling our 2011 JKU to buy a 2015 JKU Rubicon, but why would we do this. What do you think are the benefits, and is it worth it?

I’m quite sure there are some strong opinions on the subject.

Please note that yes, it will be a Jeep again. If you don’t understand that, fine, it’s a jeep thing.

Noted, that’s an important reason to move from 2011 to 2012+ JKU, but is the Rubicon worth it? And what about the year 2015, any particular issues with this built year?

Gear ratio higher on the rubicon model. Works better if car is lifted and larger tyers.

Ok what is the benefit of the ratio when having a liftkit only, does it allow driving in 4H instead of shifting between 4H and 4L.

1. 4.1 gear ratio instead of 3.73, more torque for larger tires but less fuel economy.
2. Front and rear differential lockers in case of getting stuck.
3. Pentastar engine.
4. Dashboard computer displays many engine functions and tire pressure (if ur 2011 is a sport).

Just the major differences out of my mind.

The year 2015 had no major issues but that was the year they locked the tuneability of the Engine PCM with other tuners but only Diablo has a solution to that but buying an extra PCM. Also I heard the engine cooling fan had a better programming to keep temperatures slightly lower but can not confirm to that.

In addition to the facts stated above:

1- The rear and front Dana44 are bigger and stronger than the front Dana30 that comes on non-rubicons. They all have the same housing tube strength (except for the 2017/18 Rubicon RECON) but the axles on Rubicons are even stronger than the rear Dana44 on Sahara and Sport (31 splines versus 29 splines if i recall correctly)
2- Electronic swaybar disconnect.
3- Very low range T-Case 4:1 versus the non-Rubicon 2.7:1 This is great for high torque low speed offroading i.e. rock crawling etc but the downside is its too low for very high sand dunes where you drive at high speeds. Hence, the compromise.

I have been driving Rubicos since 2008 and will not settle for less.

Currently driving JKUR 2015 and quite happy with it.

I hope you have now better insight and clear on your deciion. Feel free to ask, many experts around our club who can pitch in as well.

Thanks for all your responses.

We are convinced and bought ourselves a Red 2016 Rubicon JKU.

So this means our beloved "OrangeBaby" 2011 JKU is for sale as of today. Will make a separate post in due time.
