I have a 'Rotapax' spare tyre fuel system that relys on a ratchet strap to secure it, last week whilst spectating at 'Desnav' it became obvious that in the terrain we drive this is not enough, I have thought of a way to secure it, which involves using a flat steel plate with threaded rod.
I need to find somewhere in Abu Dhabi that stocks a piece of flat steel 35'' long X 2'' X 1/4''.
Any help would be appreciated as I dont want to loose the system on the highway.

Re: Steel Stockholders
Mussafah is your destination. The municpality seems to have pushed all the old places away from the island.
There are plenty of blacksmiths there if you need some welding done on your bracket.
This is the area you want to head for: 24 22.235 54 30.901 (DD MM.MMM). There are blacksmiths, nut and bolt shops and steel merchants.
You might see me there, I seem to spend my life there getting Frankenstein fixed.

Any particular shop in that area that you recommend? I want to fabricate a longer/tougher mount for my flag (those red ones from Ramy), they come with a small nut mount which is really designed for CB antennas and don't last very long, the thread gets worn out easily and I think that it's made out of copper...

Not a recommendation as such, but Kamal Hossain at Abdul Nasser Weld Foundry Shop can do very basic fabrication.
As in drill a hole here. Cut a slot here, bend it. Now weld it up. Don't expect to give him a drawing.
Here he is at work...
Health and safety would have a field day...
His shop is here N24 22.235 E54 30.903

Thanks for the coordinates, unfortunately my job is QHSE Director so I might feel a little challenged down there but on the plus side might get some great pics for my presentations, heading down that way tomorrow maybe see you there.

seems to be the standard work shop found in Kot Addu in Pakistan where we did a lot of valves repair and motor rewinding just keeping power plant running: the gentleman is definitely the sameDesertDawg wrote:Not a recommendation as such, but Kamal Hossain at Abdul Nasser Weld Foundry Shop can do very basic fabrication.
