I would suggest the Montana, the 64s screen is only 2.5 inch, the Montana is 4inch. When you start to download Birdseye images and have overlays the bigger screen real estate will be useful. Most people have garmin Montana or similar, with a more recent move to motion x on iPhone or iPad. The only concern I have with the latter is the iPhones can turn themselves off if they get too hot.

I have been using montana for past 4 years and have had very few issues. The birdseye is very useful (even managed to complete a competition using that only having lost the map given!) never had a problem with it overheating even in the summer, its sand proof, drop proof and waterproof (to a point!) only small fun is the battery which can loose charge after a while. The montana is very easy to use and can do wireless waypoint transfer to another

Agree with Sarah and Lee.

I don't think the 64s has a touch screen either.

Great for hiking or a back up (I have a 60CSX).

Sorry in advance if question is irrelevant... But as i have seen four five experience marshals are part if discussion...

My question is also related to Montana, but as i even never seen it what kind of device is it... So your experience will be helpful for me to make decision,

As i read all conversation and i am on conclusion that no doubt montana is the best,

My question is :- i download MotionX on iphone, is it 70% of montana or i should go for Montana only...

I read some comments that iphone switched off in desert due to heat issue, i have that experience as well, apart from this what is your advice.

Personally I use a Montana. I can share waypoints wireless which is useful when you get more involved with organizing and supporting trips and it is easy to use and is very robust also the gps is a bit more accurate than an iPhone.
Motion X I have only played with since personally I like the Montana, that said Gladiator for example uses it all the time.
A Montana can route you directly as can motion x but also it will work as a normal satnav and route using roads if you have an appropriate map. Motion X does not support this form of routing.
Both have different views such as compass etc.
To my knowledge motion X does not let you edit your map view, the Montana does so you can have a map with a compass on it for example.
If you are looking to save money but want to learn about navigating then start with the iPhone and motion X. If you get more serious or other people are relying on your navigation, so you cannot afford for the unit to over heat for example then go with the Montana.

Hats off...

For my level i need few things from GpS,

1. I mostly go alone so i want accurate coordinates so that in case of emergency i can tell someone that where i am... Now two sub questions that if i am telling coordinates from motionX will it be the same for person who is using a professional GpS device or it can be different from device to device or application to application... In short how much i can rely on the accuracy of motionX.

2. As per above discussion i feel motionX will not allow me to copy others devices maps...

3. Over heat issue actually i took it lightly as mostly i drive night or after office hours and as my per experience upto AC was chilling at these timings... So i dont think so heat issue will be a problem...

4. For the club drives as it will be mostly day time and evening time but marshal will always have professional GpS device, we have to just follow the routes... Or we have to use it little more than that...?

Problem is not about money saving, but the problem is i almost filled my car with too many offroad things , which all are necessary, so sometime i feel its ok lets add one more... But sometime i feel if i can get a little bit same results from another device than multiple use of one device is more sensible to me, so if your answer is that motionsX can tell me accurate results and other can find me using that coordinates than i am more than happy.

Or not necessary motionX only.... If there is another good software than i am more than happy to use it as well...

I do understand , for example if someone wants to take picture he can take it from iphone as well but off-course it will not be the same as SLR can. But here the point comes what you need. A picture or a professional picture...

I bought GoPro for better results... And honestly telling you last week someone posted a trip video recorded by using iPhone... Which has more better results than mine GoPro... So i felt sorry for me on buying gopro when i can get the almost same thing with iphone.. And gopro also can make only 5 to 10 minutes video after than it get heats up and switched off... And to upload that 5 to 10 minutes video computer takes 3 to 4 hours. Which seems me to much wasting of time.

So these were my concern and thats why i was seeking advice from you professional guys...

I mostly go alone

AD4x4 do not advise you got the desert alone. Period.
from motionX will it be the same for person who is using a professional GpS device

The accuracy will depend on your device - not the software. But it will be accurate enough. What you must ensure is that both persons are using the same datum and GPS co-ordinate formats.
For the club drives as it will be mostly day time and evening time but marshal will always have professional GpS device, we have to just follow the routes... Or we have to use it little more than that...?
At lower grades (Newbie/Intermediate) you depend less on the GPS. At higher grades, as Lee said, you need a dependable device when people are depending on you.

Hope that helps.

Dave

PS If you explore the navigation form, you will find my Montana tutorial and also maps I have prepared for Montana (Sweihan area)

for the price of a Montana you get an ipad Air.. with motionx , much better .. more useful me , Chief Khaiwi and Sulaiman been using it for past 3 years a 9.7 screen once you download the maps free better than any other Garmin..

why keep a device in the car useless until weekend!! you can use the ipad daily and in desert its much better than the Garmin

have a look at it, test it before you buy !!!
