My steering wheel....oops

Post by Tamraz »

On my way back from GNFD I just discovered that my steering wheel (Wrangler Sport 2005) is rotated about 20 degrees to the left: roll: 8O

I had the front stabilizer (horizontal shock absorber) changed one day before the event, could it be that they miss aligned the steering wheel during the job or is it from tough driving/ terrain during the event

3ziza is stable and pristine as she always been, but I am upset of seeing this left shift!!

Any opinion please :?:

No problems, It has happened to me a couple of times on both wranglers and Patrol. Just re-align the steering and thats it.

Sorry, I did not have a scientific answer, even the mechanics could not give me a convincing answer.

No problems aziza is just right......

This is very normal Tamraz. It happened to me several times, and now I stopped alligning the steering. I will keep it till it rotates again 180 degrees

Normally, there is an allignment screw on the steering box to allign the steering after the wheel allignment. Sometimes, because of vibration or rocky roads, this screw get loose and the allignment is changed.

They normally advice that you do wheel allignment, steering allingment, re-tighten the suspension and do a tyre balancing after every trip. But think of it, You go on a trip on Friday. Saturday you are already tired and have to stay at home to make the MOI happy, sunday you go for a car wash, monday you go to the tyre shop, tuseday you take the car to the mechanic to fix or tighten something in the car. Wednesday you find something to do in your car. Thursday is for the kids and MOI to make her happy and allow you to go to Friday trip. and start the loop again.

Well, in fact you can re-align the steering yourself without any need of a specialised mechanic, not even need to jack the car.
