Which shock absorbers?

Hello everybody :D

I need your help on deciding for front shock absorbers in my truck. I have been searching online for other people's opinions and experiences, but I haven't found much feedback on desert driving.

I have a Tahoe truck with torsion bar system at the front. It has a 4" lift on the suspension and another 4" on the body. I need something that can handle the weight and be stiff enough to be able to play in the sand.

So far, the BILSTEIN B8 5100 seems to be a favourite for offroaders, along with the RANCHO 9000XL. As I am not very knowledgeable in suspension stuff, I would greatly appreciate all the help I can get, especially from big/heavy truck owners.

Thank you in advance for your time :D

My budget is flexible, but not unlimited ;)
I am trying to explore my options... Fox and Fabtech added to the research list :geek:

Thanx MegaMoe :D

I'm using on my F150 2.5 fox external reservoir coil overs in the front,
2.0 in the rear.

Since you have a torsion bar suspension system, the shocks alone won't be too expensive.

The Bilstein and Rancho shocks are a good, reasonable priced option compared to stock shocks but still a level below any fox, king, etc.

Edit: I would change the shocks on all 4 corners, not only in the front.

Indeed:

Step 1) decide on your budget
Step 2) decide what you are going to do with the car
Step 3) talk to other AD4x4 members and visit a few garage's, let them educate you (or not if not knowledgeable)
Step 4) take time

Good luck

Hi Delimiter, have you finally decided on a preferred option? I am having a similar debate for my newly acquired 4Runner... I am seriously considering OME BP51. Thanks!
