X Terra trasmission

Yesterday I happened these things:

1) the gear lever got loose , can change position from D to N or P almost without effort and the car did not move when accelerating

2) after I put the gear lever in position 1 and I was able to drive until a parking space

3) then I switched off

4) later on I tried to switch on but the car does not start though the battery is good. We also tried with cable jumpers, no start. I cannot hear the starting engine though lights and fuel pump start

Any idea of what is happening?

Car will not start because it thinks transmission is in D - Drive or i think N, only way to fix is to manually change to P, but its dangerous to drive on the road so suggest to put X on recovery truck and fix cable from workshop, pretty quick fix.
