Tj transmission

Post by Grant-b »

I have slight resistance and grind moving from 5th to 6th gear. Any recommendations for reconditioned transmission for an 05 wrangler tj? Abu Dhabi or Dubai

Don't want to resort to dealer prices but stills needs to be reliable.

Thanks

Don't have specific recommendation, but some interesting discussion on new/used auto transmission from a while back - http://www.ad4x4.com/club/viewtopic.php ... on#p207541

Does it grind every time you shift or does it shift smoothly on a "slow" changeover?

It will be very hard to find a used transmission in good condition
Your problem sounds like the synchronize gears.

Either get a quote to rebuild from a reliable workshop (With WARRANTY) or buy a new one for 6500k.
there are a number of american transmission specialist in musafah that offer the service. Bravia, Hoory and Dexol

Perhaps someone can share his experience with them.

I support Hani, i prefer to do it asap before the debris cause more damage to the gears inside, try the dealer WM workshop in musaffah they will give you 6 months warranty

I had a similar issue on my 06 TJ, from 3rd to 4th. It is a synchromesh issue. At the time I tried to find a repair shop but failed, most only do auto boxes. I drove mine like it for 18 months, it was doing it when I bought it and I sold it doing the same. As an engineer I was not happy about the noise, however the box was tough as nails and continued to work fine. Advice, drain the oil and see if there is any metal particles in it, or on the drain plug, and change the oil regularly. Monitor the noise and feel, if it stays the same don't worry as much! I will resist the urge to say its a Jeep thing!!

Good luck.

Thanks guys. I'll get a quote to rebuild and make a judgement. The noise is on every shift, slow or fast. I am super picky about these things and will not be able to live with it I fear so I will attempt the most wallet friendly fix. Assume those recommended places in Mustafa will do manual box?

The only re-builder I would trust in AD is Dexol (N24° 22.163' E54° 31.072'). All they do is rebuild auto transmissions, day in day out.
