FJ Lift Kit / Suspension

Post by Polo31 »

Hi Everybody,
My FJ just clocked 95000km and i was thinking to put spacers on my car, but considering the mileage and that the shocks need to be replace soon, i was thinking more to go for a suspension kit:
Anybody has done this on a standard FJ model after 2011?
I have the choice between:
- ARB
- FOX
- Toytec
Which one would you recommend based on your experience ?
Thanks to let me know, planning to head to the shop tomorrow !!

Bonjour Polo
As a newbie stick to stock and drive safe
If you really want a lift go for fox stage 1 which is the approved FJ extreme mod
See you soon i hope

For your level up to advance stay as stock will be better for you or you can change the shocks only .

I own a 2015 FJ TRD that has been upgraded. I have replaced the tires to larger, new shocks and UCA, and lifted it a bit more to firm up the ride. I normally recommend ICONs or RADFLO, 2.5s at least. Given your choices I would say FOX or ARB - I have no experience with TOYTECH, but they seem good for a lift, not much of a performance improvement per se.

I worked with Best Line Garage, and apart from falling all apart on me during a drive (not tightened bolts!) it was great. I would probably go RADFLO Stage 4 and Mebar Garage if I had to do it again though, even though it may cost more. Mebar staff are all real engineers...

Thanks too all of you for your answer

Well, i do not feel like upgrading my car because i am newbie or which ever level.
I just feel like upgrading my car to change the look of it, that is it.
After if this upgrade will serve me in the future stage within the AUH 4x4 group, better to do the right investment from now on, that is why i am asking.

Radflo 2.5 well noted
Icon, a bit expensive for me
FOX, noted, for all your recommendation glad to hear so, as i heard lots of mechanical problem with the FOX
Toytech seems nobody tried it yet
ARB why not
If anybody have ARB or Toytech please let me know your feedback
Thanks :D

ARB fits Old Man Emu and they have two different version: the standard one plus their latest BP51.
The standard version is a good entry level shock and spring, the ride is firmer than stock, so stops the rolling motion when cornering. The PRO of their setup is that they have different rates depending on the modification on your car; no change; steel bumper replacement; steel bumper plus winch.

The new BP51 is a bypass shock that has adjustment for compression and rebound which enables you to set the car for your own preference of driving style. I have these installed on my LandCruiser 200 and I am very happy with them.

As this is a coil over shock, you can select the amount of lift that you want.

If you go for 2.5 inch or more, you really should consider replacing the UCA. A brand that is used in the UAE is Total Chaos which is available from Mebar. This assists with travel of the suspension and setting of alignment is easier.

Hi Polo,

I agree with DAKAR, I have fixed King since more than one month on my 2015 FJ with 2.5" Lift, I can feel the difference. I have done a lot of reviews with friends on suspension and KING was recommended by ALL including the ones who used to drive in empty quarter for falconry :-).

I rate it as per its name, it is a real KING, do not want to try any other suspension.

But yet I did not try other shocks, like FOX, it might be also good choice and good for purpose.

Hi

I have Fox 2.5 DSC on my FJ and very happy to have them. The difference between the stock shocks is like day and night.

Very good at high speed , and position sensitive damping is amazing on harsh landings.

The best part is you can adjust the damping just by turning the adjusters in couple of seconds. I make them stiffer at desert and softer on the road.
I feel the need....the need for speed!!

BTW - I agree that King are among the best, it's just a problem finding a garage that fits them well. For ICON and Fox, I would use Best Line Garage if in Dubai. They fit King as well...but I somehow don't trust that they will do the best job, totally just my impression.. At Mebar you get the most qualified mechanics, but I would not have Mebar fit Kings, I would have them fit Radflo. So yeah, WHERE you get the work done has a huge impact on what you should have fitted. There are relationships and friendships at play here.

I also don't get your point on the cost of Icons...Kings and Radflos are more expensive, and Fox are just as expensive, last I looked at Ramy. Cheaper are OME, Ironman, etc. So I am a bit baffled on your selection process that prices Icons so high (yeah, I run 4 Icons at present, all coil overs using CDV valves to make them unable).

Hmmmmmmm....
