This is a strange case,
Driving on low pressure will overheat
The tire, which will lead to explode or
Spoil the side walls from outside but like
This I'm not sure.

Anyhow thanks God it did not explode
And saved you an axident
YOU CAN NEVER SET OUT TO GET OUT FROM THIS LIFE ALIVE

This is not from driving on low pressure on hard surface.

When you have a popout during a desert drive the sand gets inside your tire.
After each popout, you should remove the tire form your rim and clean in from the inside. Then rebalance it and fit to your car. Here you can even see the sand on the pictures. Quite often you have to argue with your service advisors to take the tire off the rim and clean it, often they would only want to rebalance it leaving the sand inside.

If you don't do this then the sand stays inside the tire and when you accelerate or deaccelerate it causes friction that wears the tire from inside.

From the amount of rubber you have inside I can say that you had to do way over 10 000 KM with that sand inside.

Thanks,
