Prado 2014- SKID PLATE QUESTION

Hi

Need some advice from you guys. i am researching and looking for skid plate for prado 2014 LWB.

checked with ramy4x4 but seems costly they offered 2600 + 1500 fixing. But its three peices for front below engine, middle and then till the rear for petrol tank protection.

Checked with Icon 4x4, they quoted 1200. but for front only.

Checked with Rage performance, they quoted 1400, again front only.

I'm just thinking, front skid plate will be enough right? Its only for desert rides. if thats the case then i can renegotiate with Rage and get it installed as Scot (Millhouse) recommended rage to be clean and tidy.

regards

rahman

Rahman,

My other car is a 2009 Prado and I have put a front 8mm plate which is more than enough. Did that at AAA in Um Ramool for about 1,200 aed all inclusive.

You will only need a front skid plate to protect your radiator ... 8mm Aluminium offers the best weight vs protection balance.
I would go with Icon4x4 as they are the cheapest and offer professional workmanship .

I have an 8mm aluminum plate on my truck. It got some real work this weekend and held up well.

I got them send me a picture of the one that they (rage perf) have in stock for prado 2014. Here is the pic. In icon they have to custom fabricate it. So if I can get it done for 1200 from rage then it's good right?

I got the skid plate fixed today from Rage perfomance in al qouz dubai. seems fine i think and ready for the bash this friday in khamis trip.

but IT DOES NOT extend outside as such the bumper is guarded unlike georges plates.

Paid 1200 for the 8mm aluminum plate + fixing. Service was good and i recommend the garage. it took around 1 hour to fix it. they removed the thin black stock plates before fixing it. The plate is held in position with 6 bolts. however the transmission is still exposed just like before. and they have powder coated plates in blue, black and red , sand basted plates. will cost another 250 for it.

And this is the exact same plate they fix on the FJ.

the plate is fixed to the same chassis bolt holes of the original thin factory plates. i think it is 8mm.

The skid plate went in through some abuse last week. So far no problems and happy with it.

Rahman,
I would like to thank you for this thread. I followed your advice and took my FJ to Rage Performance, and per your OTHER advice had them install the "sand blasted" version of the stock Prado/FJ skid plate.

If you are reading this thread and have a Prado/FJ with a stock skid plate - GO BUY THIS PLATE. They also do them for other vehicles, too. It is very well made, and has all the cut-outs and service points that a mechanic needs for routine maint without removing the plate. Many other "fabricated" plates do not seem to have these maintenance ports, and are just solid plates, meaning you have to remove them for even routine work. Rage cuts theirs using a CNC water jet machine to their own design, and then has them finished either nude, powder coated, or "sand blasted". If you have a white vehicle, the sand blasted is, er, a blast. Good cosmetic match and impervious to anything.

It has now done several trips, and it still looks great, and seems bulletproof. My TRD stock plate was so bashed up after 5 drives that they had to take an angle grinder to the bolts to remove it...took them a bit longer than expected.

Anyway, again, thanks for the thread and the intro to Rage Performance. I also had them do some other work for me, and they were just great, and they give discounts for AD4x4 members.
