Bad experience with dry air filter

Hi all I found that it will be useful to share this with all of you so you can avoid it, I have nissan x-terra 2009 off road in my last trips I noticed that the car doesn't have the power like before I tried every thing as Spark plugs changes and many things but nothing then i went to mussafah to check the car and I found that the car was using a lot of oil and there was white smoke coming without my notice then it was the surprise that the engine need to be changed or do overhauling and all because of the dry air filter as what ever you do to keep it clean it will let small dust go inside the engine and time after time it will get the engine damaged.

So I advice every one not to install the dry air filter as it just give higher sound and doesn't effect in the power of the car.

My advice not use any filter only the stock one.

Only the stock filter can handle the dust ......never use aftermarket filter in desert

Dry or oily filter lead to damage you engin
Okay it gives more air to engine but mix with
Dust or sand
So by the time it well scratch the blok liner from inside which lead to engine
Start burning oil.
Meaning engine good bay.
To the one how use stop ..do flushing one or tow times and fix the stock
Filter.

I've never had any problem with dust entering the intake system past my oiled conical filter.
I think the difference might be that I built a crude but effective heatshield around mine so it isn't exposed to dust flying around in the engine compartment.
You could cover the filter with a large sock that would act as a pre-filter to keep out the coarser dust particles and prevent the filter itself from getting clogged up too quickly.

Dino its plastic toys where the sand trapped in the filter area and stays there so the filter keep sucking it, same with the JKs, not like old jeep like TJ, XJ as the vacinity of the filter will not hold the sand it goes down, my advice get snorkel with vortex (use hi flow filter in the stock box) that will keep the air cooler and more power without sand reaching the filter

i broke two engines on my JK Both because of aftermarket filters

Snorkel or stock. "Cold" air filters are for street cars.

What about Jeep Stock air filter , it is a paper made and the plastic air filter box has two issues , 1 - Very small opening on the top to suck air ( Jeep now is cutting it to make it larger ) , 2 - it has a box which keep sands in it and keep sucking it each time .

What about banks dry filter for Jeep , it has a cover to protect from sand but no Box , and it is dry with no oil blocking your sensor .

Any thoughts for this ?

I'm working on customizing a snorkel for my jeep that will work with the supercharge. My suggestion is to use a snorkel or stick to the stock air filter.

get yourself an oil based filter which is great from my experience

Stock filter and clean it after every trip or get an air tight snorkel (the ones that only breath from where it should breath) and fit it on the stock air box and stock filter. Pentastar and xterra engines are sensitive to sand particles unlike other engines (4l TJs).
