Newbie equipment Compressor, deflator strap

Post by Waldemar »

Hi Guys,

I'm buying my offroad gear and I went to ARB in Mussafah today to check out what the guys have.
The ARB CKMP12 small compressor is for around 1444 AED (http://www.arbemirates.com/arbcompress.html)
Can anyone recommend if it's worth the price, or can I get more for this value ?
I was looking at compressors from ACE, but if I haven't heard anything good about them.

Also an ARB deflator for 250 AED !!! ??? really nice deflator but does it really cost this much, or is ARB just expensive.

I also want to get the stanch strap, will the 8000kb be enough for 5 door Prado ?
when does the 12000 or 15000kb starts to become useful ?

thanks for all your replies.

Well i will be very clear as below;
Bushwacker compressor am using for the three year's.
ARB deflator as i remember i buy it whin i joined the club in 2007 and till date am using it.
Snatch strap i buy it with rhe deflator in same day and using it till date im using the orange one i think its 12000.

BTW i start offroading with a Prado 2007.
It's not the car, it's the driver WHO can make it.

ARB compressor is the best, but expensive.
Burshranger from ACE are very good. have mine for 5 years (or more?) and still working faster than a lot (even if the fuse is not there anymore, the gauge is dead, and the tie in valve has been replaced with a better one)
Deflator: ARB is expensive but will last long (don't forget to lubricate it some times)
Snatch trap: for the prado 12t.

alternative to all the above: TJM.

Overall, how do you compare TJM to ARB equipment ?

TJM compressor is around 500AED.

Thanks,

Dear waldemar I hope this found you well ,

1st I'd like to take the opportunity and welcome you aboard AD4x4
2nd : as an experience of recently joined off-roader ,I'd recommend the following ,

The gear which required (& set by ad4x4 rules) you must have :

1-Rated snatch strap (kinetic) .... From Ace /snatch strap + 2 rated shackles + heavy duty gloves = 250AED
2- 2 rated shackles
3-shovel ACE /~50AED
4-air compressor /ACE /TJM ... Both comes with 5 years warranty for ~600aed
5-base plate for jacking vehicle : I use a custom made double composite plates re-enforced with 2mm sheet metal (most members recommend a chopping board like the one u have in kitchen for cutting fruits and veggies)
6-first aid kit /ace if it's not already provided from the car manufacturer.
7-fire extinguisher /ace ~50aed
8-flag pole including flag /Ramy 4x4 / or you can custom make a plate to your spare tyre with a foldable fishing stick/or sucktion cup to the window from the dragon mall.
9-communication device /dragon mall Motorola Mt-777 for 200Aed / Amazon or eBay 1 pair of motorolla (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0072LAAM ... +waterprof) many options in this with different prices and models ... What ever u choose is great but make sure it's (400-470Mhz) not (100-170Mhz).

Best of luck ,

Deflator from ARB is one that will keep going and going, and you will spend 3 times this buying multiple poorer quality ones and they are very accurate.
Best of luck ,
the first items for newbies are the above, then you can get snatch, shackles etc. radio is very improtant for safety but as Magnum says to reach the next level and start receiving upgrade signatures in the logbook you will need all of the above. Don't go crazy, you did the right thing, ask advice and we will help for sure, we have all been there at some point (although some older ones maybe can't remember).

Hi Waldemar,

Rating for a snatch strap should be 2 to 3 times of the gross vehicle weight. You will be fine with 8 t for your Prado. If you go for a higher rating you will compromise on the kinetic effect. Anyway I would stay away from pulling you car with considerably higher weight. It will be more safe and a lot cheaper to break the strap and not your car.

Cheers, Martin

Agree. THESE MUST NOT BE USED.

Another Marshal has just reported that two of these types of board failed on the last trip and almost caused an accident.

ARB compressors are very good, bit over priced though
if you don't have that much budget you can look for alternative
TJM or Buchranger from ACE, in any case DON'T go for anything
less than 66 litters / Min

for the deflator ARB or TJM they are the same just compare the price

for the snatch you need the 8000 kg not more
the best one is the one with more elasticity range

ACE : bushranger 18-20% (good)
ARB : ARB 25 % (very good)
TJM : TJM no data

Simply go to TJM - We have a good deal with them 0 get the starter package I think for AED 900 - Add another AED 500 and get a compressor with it (I am not sure maybe 950 and 550).

This is a good starter package and then you can start adding to it as per your requirements. The package will include every thing you need as an Equipment.
