pathfinder'06 - '08

Post by Bio »

hi
anybody drives pathfinder 2006 -2008 ?
If yes please advice :

- how it behave on sand?
- do you have a lift ? how much?
- front bumper looks like something asking for natural adjustment by sand - have you replaced with steel one or it can survive somehow ?
- back bumper- does the spare wheel protect it against damages by sand or its broken in no time?
- can it manage advanced trips ? bumpers, suspension..

any other comments (except buy a JKU) ?
cheers Martin

I didn't drive it but saw ppl driving 08 model
On a nut shell; it is lovely on road car,,,,,
There is only one way to make it off road car which is change it into a proper and reliable off road car,,,,, not going to mention any brand but if u like the pathfinder then u can go to model from 2001 to 2005 (old shape) with 3.5 L engine

:D :D

I could expect than it will finish on JKU vs Xterra vs FJ

first - I already have the best off road car in the world ;)

Second - yes I would prefer xterra but I don't want to spend more than 40k at the same time I want a car with LWB, resonable engine and cruise control - last few weeks no single xterra was posted on Dubizzle fulfilling those conditions (price + CC)

after a lot of reading , checking and following dubizzle I've ended up with between pajero 3.8 LWB and pathfinder

I do prefer pathfinder and its the reason for the post

in this case it can take you for intermediate trips but advance you will destroy the car by time ( front & rear bumper, side steps,,,etc ) , for modification I don't think you can find K&N filter for it in the UAE

I would say the new shape pathfinder is a great car as family car which can take you newbie trips

My Own experience with Pathfinder 10, very reliable car onroad, comfortable, powerful engine. Offroad; replaced the springs with Armada, bilestin Shocks from exterra. It was great to a certain level. The problem that I had the LE type which was difficult to disable the traction 100% by a fuse pull. It was some times activated in background.
You need a skid plate in front. In the back just remove the tow hook cover.
On very high dunes shifting back the transmission is difficult. It wont shift back if heated.
Good luck with your choice and be ware of side airbags if available..

thanks Rami

Its exactly the type of information i was looking for :) big thanks!

as per Ramy 4x4 lift +steel bumper is almost 10K
now I need to check is it better to pay and have car i do like or to select more reasonable car (already off road ready)

I had the 2008 pathfinder
Drove it from in Anit and newbie
Trips with no issue later on some
Intermediate drives

Power wise
It have the same engine and gear box of the
Xterra with a heavier body therefore you'll have
A bit of an issue with the torque at low RPM (below 3000)
Once you have bit momentum the truck is great.
Tip tronic gear box is great and reliable you'll enjoy it.

Body wise
Yes the front bumper is low but at the same time it's
Short towards the engine so you have an alternatively
Good approach angle.
Rear bumper use to dig in the sand, a punch and it goes back in place

Solution
2" lift kit
Get front and rear bumpers from scrap yard, cut them and you'll be fine
Skid plate is same as the X, I didn't have to change it, it will bend when abused thought, easy to be custom made

Thanks! :)

It helps a lot.
I use to drive based on momentum not on engine power with my old YJ so its not a big issue for me. Any way the car is not intended for hardcore off road
the scrap yard bumpers (both) idea crossed my mind :) just need to find a yard with Nissan parts

I think you could be ok just to lift it and leave the steel bumper until later if ever, Tamer112 on the forum is driving his on intermediate trips and seems to do well - see how it works with your driving style and what trips you use it for (instead of your jeep) then decide about modifying or not. Jalal's suggestion about trimming the original bumper could be a good compromise as well.
