Upgrade JKU Rubicon
Hi,
Where in AD can I find specialists for Jeep upgrades?
I want to upgrade my JKU Rubicon (lift, kill-switch for ABS/ESP, maybe tyres, on-board compressor).
Can anyone recommend a lift-kit? 2.5 or 3.5 inch?
Thanks for any information / advice!
Cheers,
Jorg

For Lift kit i would suggest going to ramy 4x4 for this as they can provide a majority of the lift kits in the market. secondly in the rubicon it comes with a 1 inch bilstein lift, therefore you will need to remove the whole thing and start again. if you go 2.5 you will also need to get wheel spacers as it will shift the centre of gravity and make the car more unstable - believe me i have been there. i would suggest AEV all in one 2.5 lift or fox racing (which are by far the best for road and off road mix) with your choice of springs.
Kill swithc can be done by WM for AED300 and also wont void warranty etc.
Compressor you get the ARB single compressor and fit in the back or under the drivers seat. Double on board would be in the back.
Tyres is always a struggle. Best in the market for dual purpose is the Cooper Discoverer AT3 and they are difficult to find. alternate is the Yokohama Geolander AT. STT to heavy and digs and BF have a tricky sidewall whcih can be prone to pop outs.
For switches i would recommend getting the daystar / smittybuilt switch panel for the a-pillar and then its nice clean and tidy.
if you ping me you number i will send you a picture of the piller switches.

I'll have a thought around it - just want to understand where it could get done and how much it would be..Ray1 wrote:Hi Jorg, don't rush to spend tons of money on upgrades unless you planned to modify your jeep anyway.. very likely you'll get stuck less and less as weeks and trips go by, mods or not
But you may be right - the better the driver get's, the less critical the car performance...
... a lot to learn for me ahaed

I'll have a look at Ramy and will see what they recommend/ have or can order.

Re: Upgrade JKU Rubicon
Having lost a tire yesterday due to sidewall detachment, I've got now a similar task. The Goodyear seems to be good for a year only or two. So much for Silent Armor.
Is there any experience in the club with 285/70 R17 on stock JK Sahara stock wheels. I understand that wheel spacers are required (1.5"). Or is it advisable to go the extra mile of a 2.5" AEV lift or even spend the extra mony for a mopar lift?
In addition, do I have to expect issues passing Muroor check?
Grateful for any advise.
Thanks, Martin

It totally depends on the purchaser. Some can be 4 -6k up to 19 for the radflo. 10 max I would say. Muroor is not an issue if the fenders cover the wheels or they don't stick out any wider. If you lift you should get wheel spacers for stability. Downside is it increases risk of bending c joints or axle holding on wheels and possibly axle bend from increasing distance from diff to the wheels.
Kalahari has the aev setup so pm him for cost.
Personally I got 1 inch terra flex space lift from ramy and 1.25 wheel spacers on top of my 1 inch stock rubicon lift. It's nice. Cost about 1600 for both from ramy. Comes with 2x extra 1 inch blocks so if you go for a metal bumper you add them to compensate for the additional weight.

Re: Upgrade JKU Rubicon
I have the AEV Dual Sport 2.5" kit from Ramy. Cost a little over 6000 installed. I also got them to do the Artec axle strengthening on my 2014 Sport JKU (2800 installed). I know the Rubicon has the 44 front axle but I understand that it is also prone to bending? I went for 285/70/17 Kumho Road Venturer S-AT tyres which are great so far. One thing I will say about the AEV lift is that the rear end is a bit bouncy when pushing it over bumpy terrain, so may upgrade the shocks in the future.

Thanks for all the advices!
Thought it's just fair to give a short update on the project.
So far I got done:
- Terraflex 2.5' lift kid with King-Shocks
- King Bumper-Stop (they are great!)
- Wheel spacer
- Front Axle reinforcement
- Night lights on both sides of the Windshield
- Gibson Exhaust
- JWS EVII Headlamps Black
- ARB double compressor (mounted under passenger seat)
- Kill Switch for ABS/ESP
.. all done by Ramy.
Next phase (as soon as the parts have arrived):
- Warn Winch
- light Bar on Hood
- a few minor things
... I stay for the moment with the original tyres since they are new. Once they are done, I might change to a slightly larger size... let's see
The car does great with all these updates. Much easier on cresting due to the lift, and worlds better on the dunes due to the new shocks (especially on higher speed).
Cheers,
Jorg

I have also had good service from both Ramy and SSS. I wouldn't hesitate to use either.

Re: Upgrade JKU Rubicon
By the way just as a heads up. if your car is registered in Abu Dhabi, by doing work in Ramy, you will have void the warranty on a whole host of things. like Diff, axle, transmission, suspension, arms, electrics etc. Dealer can do the work, but only if they do it will they honour the warranty. I found this out before and glad i did, and i know someone who is currently in "discussions" that they were to make pay for works until they showed the work records and it had been done by agency so no complaints. check.
