Tow bar

Post by roxyf150 »

Hi
I'm new to this forum, can't wait to go on my first trip! Does anyone know where I can get a tow bar fitted for my F150? Was quoted 2,000 without fitting cost from premier motors which I thought was quite expensive, or is this about right? Don't mind having a second hand one if in good condition.

For a new towbar here that's probably about the going rate, you could try some of the offroad shops to see if they stock them? You might find one in scrap yards in Mussafah, Sharjah, Umm Ramool but not easily and likely rare (if you go this way try to check online if towbar from other vehicles or earlier years F150 will fit your truck).

Good luck! if you can afford it life will be easier getting the one from Premier Motors :)

Hi Roxy and welcome to the club! If you are preparing your vehicle with the necessary setup for offroading you should consider installing shackle receiver hitch instead of (or as well as) a tow bar as that is what we use when doing recoveries in the desert.

Roxy, from one F150 driver to another, welcome to the club!

My FX4 had the trailer hitch fitted as standard. I bought the shackle separately from ACE and haven't looked back since.
You want this done properly, so my advice would be to go to a reputable shop or dealer. The only place I would recommend other than Premier Motors in this instance is Ramy4x4.
Call me if you want any other advice F150 related. I'm not an expert on the Fs, but drive my standard FX4 regularly all over the desert and can give you some pointers.

Hi Roxy,

Welcome to the Club, and im really happy to find a new F150 join in, (no offense jeep owners) :D

Name is Hamzah, a Newbie in the desert :D and my teacher with the F150 on the sand has always been Thom. Due to the welding that needs to be done, safest is to head to a reputable shop, and get it done right and safe rather than cheap. So as Thom has already said, best is

1) Premier Motors
2) Ramy 4x4

Hi :)

I already have the bar fitted, it was just the ball and mount or shackle I need, but thanks!
Thom has been very helpful and given me some pointers! Hoping to make my first trip this Friday with you guys :D
