How to fully disable ESP on a JK/KK model (liberty) ?

Post by mikouze »

Hi there !

I have remarked, as many of you, when pushin' the ESP de-activation button, that ESP is NOT totally deactivated, and when in tricky situation or in need of power, then suddenly the ESP which was said off, works (ESP light blinks, instead of being permanently ON) and brings more trouble to a situation already not so easy....

I've seen that some of you were removing some fuse(s) to totally disengage the ESP, before trip in the sand.

On my manual's owner,
there's a fuse for the ABS pump/ESP, at location J6 (40 amps)
there's a fuse for the ABS valve/ESP, at location J7 (30 amps)
there's a mini-fuse (as per manual description) for ABS/ASP/switch light..., at location M37 (10 amps)

which one(s) do i have to remove (without compromising anything else than ABS & ESP) ????

Thank for your help

to disable it completely, you need to push the ESP button for 7 SECONDS... not just a push. Then you will have a message on your dashboard, not just the blinking sliding car... But you'll keep the anti roll protection on.

Everytime you'll switch the engine, you'll have to do it again.

or get a switch install that will disable all.

And regarding fuse it's J6 for the jk14. Now I have the kill switch instead.

As Andy recommends, the only thing that works is to remove J6 or get the switch installed.

In my experience, deactivating ESP by holding the switch in for 7 sec somehow get overruled by the system and you will have the ABS kicking in when you really don't need it. Believe it is due to US legislation not allowing car makers to fully swich this off.

I suggest a kill switch on one of your wheel hubs speed sensors.

Very useful info. I am fed up with having to remove the fuse every time. I will install a killer switch :-D

Great info, thanks. Quick question, is the kill switch also relevant in rock climbing? Given the low speed, perhaps not, but it sounds cool to have anyway.

Relevant in any situation where you might have wheel spin and unwanted interference from the vehicle controls.

And here is the work done today. The button is on the front of the central arm rest. No more opening the hood and removing the fuse :D
