Re: SSS's V8 swap project ... NOT just another bubble! (anymore)

Post by SSS »

Thanks a lot, guys!

1. will swap my ADNOC powersteering fluid for some quality hydraulic fluid FIRST
(If the oil still looses its capabilities, I will need a cooler soon  )

Lately ... while enjoying the nice V8 music in town ... going over a bump was giving me "squeeaaaak squeak" ...
and my sluggy's rear end is drifting/wandering in quick turns. Some rubber bushings (original rear track bar and original front upper control arms) are obviously shot! (verified!)

therefor it is time for THIS

2. Sluggy is getting some drivetrain upgrades right now  :

- Superior D44 Super truss (less torque flex of the axle tubes  )
- Currie JJ adjustable control arms (full set)
- Currie JJ trackbars (both are here, but at the moment I will only swap the rear, the front teraflex TB is still good)
- Currie Anti Rock
- Bilstein 5160 shocks
- T&T rear spring plate relocators to straighten the rear springs out ;)

I need 1,5" in the front for my 10" travel 5160 anyway ... and with a stock D30 diff cover it is just fine if you do some slight and smart CA adjustments ;-)

Are you getting the diff truss from Artec? If so any idea about the weight so maybe (if not too late) I can add a set for my car too.

In all cases did you find a p lace with REAL GOOD WELDERS to do the job?

I would have loved to ...

BUT
1. The truss is from Superior and for my REAR D44 to hold the torque ... AND BOLT ON!!! The Pentastar JKs with 290 HP have the longer D44 wit the same tube diameter in the rear as well ... sooo
(If something goes wrong there a C-clip elim. (and widened) Ford 8.8 or Ford 9 would be the next evolutionary step ... the D60's are too fat (low hanging) for 33" tires!)

2. For the front LP D30 I have the IRO inner sleeves and the C gussets in place already... not going to spend more money there ... when it breakes I will do something more serious. Exactly what depends on the parts I can save ... like shafts, truetrac etc ...
( a Artec OR UCF trussed high pinion D30 would be a good choice ... a Dynatrac high pinion TJ ProRock D44 would be the killer!)

3. I have chromoly's front and rear and richmond gears and truetracs front and rear... will drive the shxt out of it ... maybe it holds just fine to 300ish HP and torque with my automatic... we will see! (as already said ... I don't fear much hassle for the strengthened(in comparison to the pentastars) rear D44!)

Are you going to shorten your wheelbase ??

I guess I have more problems with the bigger axle and lower ride. I'm planning to use new stock track bars and weld in some relocation brackets. :)

Watch out with the rear truss and exhaust clearance. I only have the stock bump stops and the truss is rubbing against the exhaust tip. I guess tat you won't have any problems with 1.5" bump stops. But it is safer to be sure.. :)

In the front my wheelbase is already 0.75" longer than stock and the teraflex TB was slightly(!) rubbing the diff cover with stock BS!
But since I have those prothanes NO ISSUES anymore ... and if ... I can still go back 0.75" with the wheelbase
(as for the currie front TB going to hit the stock (!) tie rod ... did I say I am running the slighly bent down and much stronger V8 ZJ tierod for 2 years already? )

The OME shocks NEEDED 1.25" final BS extension in the rear not to bottom out (!) ... the Bilsteins would need 1.5" ... but again ... was running the PROTHANES for more than a year and since then NO ISSUES AS WELL
(before the rear TB was hitting the gas tank and the relocation bracket was hitting the tub :? )
I checked the exhaust already ... the 3" bent pipe looks like it will be giving me some clearance issue at the truss at full bump ... maybe some dinging needed :|

Did I mention the PROTHANES are going to be revisited? (new ones as replacement ... proper mounting and "stamps")

okeeey ... Sluggy drivetrain is ready for action ... all went in:
(welll ... except some limiting straps ... no need. coils not unseating ... and except for the PS fluid cooler ... this weekend is not hard core anyway)

sluggy after fitness studio
sluggyReadyForAction.jpg
front suspension setup at ride height ... note the uptravel potential  (I have the same down!)
prothane_rev2_front_driver_2.jpg
rear suspension setup at ride height ... prothane progressive bumpstop art
prothane_rev2_rear_driver_2.jpg
a peek under the skirt ... HD bolt on truss in place ... clearances look ok so far
rearTrussBilstein.jpg
for the Prothane Progressive Coil Spring Insert mounting revision 2 (ART!) pls contact AnTrax/Aka Hani

EDIT (after the season opening party and some play nearby):
- truss is slightly touching exhaust under full compression ... don't know if I will do something about it
- in the front the prothanes compress more than expected ... shock shaft is going in completely under full compression ... eventually a few washers under the upper stamp will do.
OTHERWISE the suspension and the AntiRock rock!!!!

By the way , have you taken it to the traffic department inspection Yet ? because the police men might give you a traffic fine if you don't have the inspection pass letter with you.

All the best
Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.
