Re: SSS's V8 swap project ... NOT just another bubble! (anymore)
ok ... decided to get my front brakes done correctly BEFORE being able to shoot off the traffic light and freaking out when trying to stop
The stock TJ front disc brakes are already struggling with my 33" and my 4.88 ratio ... in 4Lo its not funny how much pedal pressure has to be applied ...
so : ordered from savvyoffroad.com a smart brake upgrade kit which replaces the wimpy single piston calipers with 48mm double piston calipers for a ford explorer sport trac 2003-2005 (the smart part are the adapters to stock TJ knuckles)
Includes of course all the cool stuff like Centric Premium rotors and BlackMagic brakepads (for ford explorer as well , 95-2001 rotors , 2003-2005 pads for the calipers described above )
And this newer kit works with 15" wheels ... yesssss
we all know : the ford explorer is quite a fat truck ... and if those calipers work there, you can expect them to handle the smallish TJ exceptionally well!
(ossme is using RCV shafts which would not clear the double piston caliper adapters ... so got him a Centric Premium Rotor, BlackMagic Pad combo for stock TJ knuckles and stock calipers from BlackMagicBrakes.com )
looky here (16" version): now only left to start the swap:
some exhaust part from summit, some radiator hoses, lokar gear shift indicator, a offroad/race baffled f-body rear sump oil pan and some smaller stuff. ... sh!t, this last order will be bigger than expected.
(The Holden/Caprice/luminas have a FRONT sump oil pans ... complete bullshit for the TJ ... so another surprising expense )

Thx man!ossme wrote:Congratulations man !

The remaining list :
http://www.summitracing.com/users/wishl ... 3c12a461b6
I am still not sure if I want to rebuild and complete my Daystar Controlarms (with JJs) or if I want to order the Currie or Savvy arms ...
some smaller parts like a roll of 10 gauge and a roll of 18 gauge wire might add ... as sourcing good quality stuff here is a PIA (getting the stuff here at all is already a fun)...
and the truss is cheapest from them ... not sure since their shipping (summit!) IS more expensive than 4wd, jegs or even QT. sh!t
ahh ... and THIS :
http://www.improvedracing.com/oil-pans- ... feb265da58 plus windage tray, pickup tube, dipstick tube and dip stick

in what regards?ossme wrote:What are you planning to do for the rest of the car ??
- winch? not now ... unsure if ever
- lift height? more os less the same ... maybe progressive 3" coils ... if I find the right shocks for the right up and down travel and valving (not that easy for 3" lifts!)
if not, for sure I will remove the additional 0.75 spacer from top of my OME springs in the front, since the LS1 will be 100lbs lighter!
back to true 2" suspension.
- suspension in general? for sure will revisit ... I am sure my surfboard has some more potential for optimization.
playing with the thought of a ORO swayloc but not sure yet ... more and softer flex ... axle droop is used better then and single sided compression (high speed) is much softer!
and for sure I have to either rebuild/upgrade my frame side CA bushings to JJs in my Daystar arms or I will go completely with the Currie/Savvy aluminium set (I have a SYE and CV DS !)
- if (when) I break my front D30 r&p with my LS1 I will go with a HP D30 from a pre 2001 cherokee, transfer my shafts and brakes over, and hopefully the TrueTrac, regear to 4.10 and truss the turd
- i might do a tummy tuck ... will see after my coming 4L60E is in place on the stock skid
tire wise I am staying with 33" !

So, Basically, you are only concerned about the front differential..
Well, lighter tires and a more sensible throttle use might make it survive for a year or two....

Re: SSS's V8 swap project ... NOT just another bubble! (anymore)
update :
- went to muroor to show them my new mounts ... and to get proof against some gossip lately
(the swap is still possible ... and my clean mounts are ok as well ... I hope they do not change their mind ... I have witnessed a friends 6.0 Patrol done at 7p passing )
- ordered the final order from the US (summitracing) including
(1. HP tuner pro kit, 2. ALL exhaust stuff (plus 100 bucks more for a bigger 22"x11"x5" muffler), 3. Superior bolt on truss for my rear D44 to reduce housing flex, 4. throttle cable, 5. radiator hoses, 6. GM PP Truck oil pan KIT, 7. new prothane coil spring inserts, 8. MAF sensor sleeve kit, 9. Transmission shifter indicator kit (led indicator ... so no guessing in which gear))
- mailed with some expert guy at pirate4x4 who has tuned hundreds of LS swaps from wild to mild ... he is going to tune my pcm via file exchange remotely to "special order" for 150 bucks (life time trouble shooting) ... I will stay mild ... but without VATS, emissions, and with improved shift points/tables, reduced torque management, VSS pulse adaptation, tire size and gear ratio recalculation/programming and still retaining MAF!
some parts are special order or back ordered ... so the delivery date is still shifting from mid april to beg may now
aaand ... found out that my rear lower STOCK control arm rubber bushings are shot ... so the first thing to revisit after the swap is THE CONTROLARMS ... grrrr
The GOOD NEWS ... my TJ was and still is hitting the dunes ... hehehe ... because I did not let the workshop iteratively "find out" whats needed wasting my time for many months waiting ... instead I am going to start when EVERYTHING is sorted out and the PARTS complete (beginning of summer vacations? latest in Ramadan!)!
