Dr Muroor - Pass/Fail Experiences
I am starting this topic as a proposed consolidation of our joint experiences related to the dreaded annual vehicle test for 3+ year old vehicles.
Feel free to post pre-test preparation, test and after test experience.
------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll start off with the Rhino's (2012 JK) test PASS today!
Based on information I got pre test I was mainly concerned about the following:
Steel AEV(fake) bumper (without the plastic crush cans - I couldn't get replacements in time)
Bumper and windshield mounted lights
3.5" lift
Western Motors reinforced axle
35" tyres/wheels slightly protruding beyond the edge of the stock fenders
Rear seat removed to make place for custom built storage box.
Prep wise I did the following:
Western Motoros removed the bumper, replaced it with a stock bumper and they removed all the additional lights. (See photo) The Rhino looks very odd without the horn.
Result:
A few very amused smiles from the test engineers as they were inspecting the underside, tyres and suspension, but within 13 minutes of starting the test, it was a PASS as a result!
Lesson learnt - even though the vehicle was first registered 2 years and 8 months ago (less than 3 year) and the advice I received, I still had to do the test as it was the 3rd renewal (including the transfer from the previous owner).
I understand the law may be changing with regards to the bumpers so, next time I will try and do the test with lights covered and leave the bumper on with plastic crush cans.
Looking forward to hearing from the rest.

As a matter of fact I heard once from a RTA official that bumpers with plastic crush cans are acceptable. Of course depends on the inspector!!!

So we sold gruff aka tj 2005 and needed inspection. Rancho 3.5 lift, stabiliser, bushwhacked pocket fenders dune grappler tyres, bikini top and windjammer and duster cover. Licence is recorded as steel bumpers so we left the after market warn front and rear bumpers. FAIL. Bumpers needed to be swapped to stock which are also metal but with plastic ends. PASSED after WM swapped with our stock ones. Didn't even look at lights lift etc. also no cat on car so happy days.

Thanks a lot Thom. That is really a nice idea. Regarding the lights, based on personal experience...just cover them & you are fine

Then you got an Xterra flashing you on the corniche! followed by a Prado trying to get in on the action.DesertDawg wrote:I drove Frankie to Muroor. I passed. I drove home.

Re: Dr Muroor - Pass/Fail Experiences
Went to Main Muroor in Abu Dhabi this morning at 7:50. Get my ticket for line one. Nobody in front of me. Went through with a smile and a wink from the guys with regards to the exhaust noise and the tires really borderline (out of body).

Re: Dr Muroor - Pass/Fail Experiences
Mine failed on :
Tyres too wide
Steel front bumper
Stickers
Lights
Rear number plate - it was the "old" style and needed replacing! No idea what this meant
This was at the one in Mussafah and done this week.

Went to the main Muroor location in Abu Dhabi. Passed fine.
Regular front bumper but with heavy dents in them, stickers on the sides.
Whew.

Went to the main Muroor location in Abu Dhabi.
First test failed with metal bumper that had plastic crush cans.
Swapped the bumper out and got it rechecked with no issues.
