Converting different GPS formats

this needs a course, is there any thing can go easy. or somebody can show us how or what to use. as i feel that it will be easy on the GPS. but going through this doc. is toooooooooooo much.

I know its for help, and we want to learn.

soooooory

The document from hani is one of the best what I ever saw. So take a calculator sit down on your desk and try to calculate the examples in the document. I am sure you will do it. Its easy. Its not necessary that you can exactly explain how GPS is working :D just how to recalculate the different formats.

if your holding any smart mobile, you can download coordinate converter software
if you dont bring your labtop with you with hani application in it
if you dont have a labtop get a calculator with you
if you dont have a calculator get blank A4 + pencil, i think you can finish calculating before 4.30 :D

seriously the mobile application is the best thing
good luck

For non-mathematicians:
Before entering a co-ordinate, you can set the GPS to the format in which you want to
enter it (System Setup Menu). After entering the co-ordinate and storing it as waypoint,
you can set the GPS to another format, and the stored co-ordinate will automatically be
converted into the new format also.
Unfortunately this will not work in case you get a point in different formats for
easting and northing. Then you will have to enter dummy figures for either N or E first,
set the new co-ordinate format, then edit the waypoint entering the correct value
in lieu of the dummy.

For mathematicians:
MUCH easier way is by a pocket calculator or paper and pencil. That will work if you
know how to divide or mulitply by 6 and by 10.

If co-ordinates come in UTM WGS84, then better be a non-mathematician and use the first method.

Final Plan

Dear Members,

By now you should all have began arrangements with your teams for the fun this Friday, I have updated the excel files in Page1/Post2 and added a file containing the waypoints & track you will need to reach the start point.

Final Plan

- Each Team will meet together at the last Adnoc in musafah road to fuel your cars and jerrycans

- you will then start your journey with your team to the Gate entrance of the meeting point (Way Point Name: ROAD).

- On your way, you should pass the Car Museum on your left hand side, make sure you stop there and top up your fuel in the car museum petrol station. They are open from 7:00Am till 11:00 PM, the waypoint is labeled: CMFuel.

- Continue your journey to waypoint “ROAD”, once you reach there enter the gate and start deflating your tires.

- Once deflation is completed, follow the track you uploaded to your GPS labeled “Road to start”. This track should be a smooth flat ride all the way to the starting point 20KM away from the road. Don’t navigate the track; simply follow the green line on the map/screen. (Navigating the track might cause some GPS models to respond slowly which will cause you to navigate off the track.

- You will find the organizers waiting for you on the start point. Make sure you are there by 9:30AM sharp to avoid penalties.

- you will park your cars in a orderly manner and immediately approach the organizers as a team.

- Below is a time schedule that could help you arrange your timings:

Drive from Musafah to Car museum: 20-30 Min
Drive From Car Museum to Gate: 40-50 Min
Drive from gate to start point: 15-20 Min
Please make count of the time you will spend topping up fuel & deflating your tires.

Check List Members:

- I have My GPS device and its car charger
- my team is equipped with all recovery gear
- my team has at least one first aid box
- my team is equipped with radios (recommended but not mandatory)
- I have downloaded the waypoints and tracks from the organizers and I understand how to use them
- I have planned with my team our meeting and scheduled our drive to make it to the start point before 9:00AM
- I have at least 20L extra of fuel for my car (modified cars need at least 40L)

Marshals Team:

- All the above from Check list members +

- I have with me a ruler, pencil and a calculating device. (Mobile phones calculators will work)

If for any reason the above information is not clear please PM me or contact me directly and I will gladly explain.
