WANTED: Older model Jeep Cherokee
Hi my fellow members. Can I please ask if you know of anyone selling a car like this or just keep your eyes on the lookout for me. I am not in a huge hurry, I want the right car and it must be very clean. Even better if you personally know the car's history.
Basically, I am chasing a Jeep Cherokee Sport like DiVeR's car.
• 2000 or 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport (old shape before the Liberty)
• Not a Grand = just a Cherokee or Cherokee Sport
Looks like a manual or an auto will be fine
• Must be a very clean car, well looked after
• Kilometres ideally should not be over 150,000 kms.
• Price should be somewhere between 18,000 and 25,000 AED
My Ford Explorer is just way too heavy, I want to have more freedom on the sand.
I also wouldn’t mind the new Liberty shape (2002 onwards) but the price could be a problem, most of them are around 45,000 to 70,000 and that is over the budget.
Please call or email me if you know of one.
You can call me on 050 818 2515 or
email dfrisina@emirates.net.ae or
PM
We thought of a Wrangler but we love bringing little James along and he seems to really enjoy it so a car like DiVeR's would be perfect in our eyes.
Thanks heaps and regards,
David (Friz)

Thanks everyone, please keep your eyes on the lookout. Abdalla, thank you - I had already called this one and it's an auto. I just called the one DiVeR saw and it was a 97 model and sold last weekend, he is just waiting for final payment.
Yes, bitten... it's a lot of fun, imagine how much when I get out of the Explorer.
Keep me in mind.
Prefer 2001 and a manual.
Kind Regards,
David

Hi Friz,
it will be quite difficult to find a 2001 Cherokee with manual transmission because the last models built in 2001 which where called "Classic" had all the automatic transmission on board.
Only the "Sport" model had manual and that was stopped in 2000, so far as i know.
Since 1990 i had already 2 Cherokees with manual transmission and 6 of them with automatic transmission. I must say that the automatic is fitting much better to the characteristic of the 4.0 litre engine.
With manual the car is behaving more like a Donkey.
Also for desert driving the automatic is a perfect joice which delivers power than when you need it.
But anyhow, good luck in finding "Your" Cherokee.
Chuck
P.S. one more Tipp: even a 1999 and 2000 model can be a good joice. All of which where produced 1998 and younger have the "new shape" compare to the older ones.
The millage is not the biggest problem. I got my red one with 130000 miles and it still runs nice ( now 151000 miles ). Ok, it is with a Stroker but the rest is still original.

Thanks heaps Chuck, great info.... looks like I am just chasing a very clean 1999 onwards Cherokee then with a manual or an auto sounds to be no problem. Once I get one, I'll have a chat on the side with you and DiVeR about some basic mods etc... lifting and wheels for starters. Thanks again
Mike, thanks a lot as well - please let me know what you find.
One nice clean car will turn up.
Cheers,
Friz

mine is gulf specs.. peace of mind.. though it (American / Gulf) does not matter as per the experts..
if you are buying the auto.. make sure the gearbox is in good condition...
btw- my suggestion: avoid buying an auto from a dealer.. (they would use thicker oil and yu would'nt know the condition of the gearbox)..![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
