Thanks man
I would like you advise though...
As you know we will be camping and we need basic things like water, washroom and toilet. Please advise if there is anyway we can rent these facilities.
Can you also direct me to any of the tour operators in bahrain for such facilities.[/quote]
Will ask around and let you know... anyway, I thought camping was about getting back to basics?
Cheers

As a well travelled Expat and one that has driven from Kuwait to UAE just a few months ago I would like to advise the following for those not sure:
You can drive direct from UAE to Bahrain via only Saudi, you don’t need to enter Qatar unless you want to but then that causes extra visa problems.
You will need to get a return Transit visa for Saudi from the embassy in advance (a lot in advance) the transit visas only last once so if you do go into Qatar you can not re enter Saudi on the same visa.
you must not carry any forbidden things through Saudi (They will check and dismantle your whole car if they suspect anything, this includes Alcohol, any form or Porn no matter how mild, don’t even take a car magazine from here as they too have women in them showing too much skin. No Pork, No religious material except of cause the quran, No walkie talkies as you call them, they will be taken away and not returned, No Speed camera detectors, they will also be taken away
If you have female passengers in the car with you they must be related i.e. your wife, mother, Daughter etc, if you have someone else’s wife with you their husband must also be in the same vehicle
Ladies must completely cover up, ideal is an abiya, but you must at least have a head scarf to cover your head
Expect a very long delay at the Bahrain Causeway anything upto 6 hours at its worst, a good crossing is around 1 hour, expect even longer coming back across the causeway from Bahrain as customs are very strict and regularly strip cars including door panels etc.
The road to Bahrain through Saudi is good but boring.
With all that said the trip will be awesome and if someone wants to guarantee my car loan for the week I’ll come with you!! I spent 3 years in Saudi + 100's of weekends in Bahrain if will be a cracking trip one not to be missed. (Alternatively I’ll come with my car and just miss out on the off roading part.

Forgot to mention: Take a good tool kit with you...because if the Saudi Customs do strip your car they do not put it back together!!
+ Petrol in Saudi is half the price of here so fill up them extra long range tanks once your over the boarder.
