Dear experts

A friend of mine is evaluating buying a 2011 chevy Silverado pickup. This is his 2nd vehicle which would solely use to drive in the desert.

He hasn't driven in the desert yet, so this would be his truck from ANIT onwards :D

Looking forward to your feedback, so he can take a call, whether he would buy the chevy

wrong forum man... :D :D

Buy a cheap car for the desert....that is my new moto....

the truck is great, but he will be better surved buying a used JK or TJ if this is a desert toy only......cheaper to fix and will not break the bank....

and not the right car for desert driving... but depends if your friend wants to show off at Area 53 at the bottom of the big red, and wants to really off road in Liwa...

100 % good answer for Latief.

Can I get contact number of pumuckl, I could ask my friend to consult with him directly. Based on recommendations of latief and XOF, I already told him that it is not recommended as a good offroader by AD4X4 seasoned experts :)

Anybody in the group, who actually uses a chevy Silverado single cabin 5.3 Ltr??

The sierra is capable and has a strong engine.
It is a very long wheelbase and has a light back.
It has to be driven "different" than a jeep.
And modding / lifting it is more work/money than a jeep but will look and perform well.
The 5.3 V8 is a GREAT engine.

But I disliked the anti Jeep comments from our fellow Galopper and Tahoe drivers ... LooooL

sorry that you dislike it. It wouldnt come if the coments were in a serious way.
When the question is for a toy, I agree 100% the jeep is the best. If the question is for a car, there is no space for a jeep.

again, depend on how advance you want to go... this week end, in liwa, i could only see Wranglers and Patrols... 8-)

no XTerra, no Gallopers, No Pajero, No big American Slugs, etc... of course, this is not a serious comment... but still.

Even Jeeps had some issues...

By the way - cheaper is not always a cheaper... maybe at the begining...
