Turtles watch in Oman
Guys and Gals
Planning a trip to Ras al Jinz in Oman to watch the turtle at night.
There is a centre / hotel there and seems un able to get in touch.Any one know the hotel.
It look to be a long trip and it may required at least three days so who ever planning to do this trip may required to take a week off duty. Mind you the holidays sesions are here so what not spend a week here.
What do you say :ann: :ann: :together:

I have asked them for what dates do they have vacancies. As you know it is busy down there but so far no responce. I will contact them again and see what happened.
One thing i could not understand, they say that place is very wind and pitching a tent would be advisable . Then how about their tents then???

I would love to go again. I went there about 8 years ago when working in Oman and it's definitely worth the visit. I may be remembering incorrectly but I recall the guides saying that the best times to see the turtles coming ashore is around October but there is usually some activity all year round. Certainly plenty were to be seen from the jetties and diving in the area.
It can get windy. The night I went with my wife and (at the time) one daughter we had difficulty pitching a tent because I couldn't force the pegs into the ground. As a consequence I used the Landcruiser to secure the tent with the result that at about 330am, I was the only visitor with an intact tent!! The wind got very strong, loaded with sand and very hot. The only one of us to sleep was my two year old!
Great venue and great sights. One word of caution though to all that do go; respect the sensitivity of the site. The turtles do not react well to loads of noise and people rushing at them, touching them and trying to lift or haul them. It is distressing to them and anybody who cares for their welfare and ultimately damages their chance for longterm survival. Have respect.
ps. If part of a longer trip, there are good (small) beaches to camp at on the coast on the way down and a couple of great wadis, near Qalhat worth exploring.

Turles watching can be a year round as per the Off-Road Oman book but peakk time is in the months of june to August.
Thanks for info. man and as doc said above we need a week long so tha we can explore the area.
So let see how many people are interested as many would be on their annual leaves then.
