Wrangler '93 YJ, what are they like?

Post by Andy »

Nows your chance to get me in a Jeep!

I have been offered a very cheap 93 YJ, seems ok to drive on the road and everything works. Its an auto unfortunately but its verrrrry cheap.

So what are they like in the sand? are they anywhere near as good as the TJ? it will only be a weekend toy so what are the essential mods to make it useable fun?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I think the best to tell you all about 90's cars is Ralf
and maybe our friend from Kuwait ADSONIC.
Maybe Macamumu has one too (Japanese )

Enjoy

Shhhh keep your voices quiet, 'The Plastic Pig' doesnt know anything yet and I will break the news to her gently IF I go for it!!!

Unfortunately Rolf isnt the best person to ask, considering that he is in the process of trying to sell his because he hates it!!!, but I think its more because he likes the comfort of the Pajero rather than the YJ.

Mmmm decisions decisions.....

Andy, speak to Halwa, he had one, which I drove along the Corniche when he was seling it. He described it as a bucking bronco and boy was he right!!!! A lift kit on a YJ causes you serious problems, Halwa had head injuries fronm his in the desert. The Corniche drive put me off! Saying that I am looking for a cheap Wrangler to bash about. :)

If its just a desert toy mate you may as well get it if its so cheap. Just stick a 2" lift some decent tires, and air intake and an exhaust and you'll be rockin.
Plus, if you break down you know its gonna be mechanical as they have ardly any electricals in the engine bay. :D
If not, just how chepa is it? PM me I may be interested.

Ok had a good look round it and had a drive, the only major problem I could find is that its reluctant to engage 4wd in either low or high, it does engage and works but you have to really play with the selector. Its got an earth issue so the indicators have a life of there own and the AC fan rattles like mad (who cares its got no roof). If it will go through test I think I may take it ....

Heres a pic.....
