SAT Newbie - Al Khazna (Intermediate Trip Convoy) 29-07-2023

The trip published by Marshal Osama was for a Newbie drive which was so well subscribed that the group was split into a Newbie convoy and Intermediate convoy.

This trip report is for the Intermediate convoy.

Intermediate trip convoy order:

With our convoy briefing done we agreed a mid-trip meeting point with the Newbie convoy and headed out to the dunes.

The area was perfect for the leisurely inter drive we spoke of at our briefing and set a general course and meandered our way through the beautiful dunes.

With plenty of opportunities to practice our straight cresting, side sloping and some gentle roller coaster areas along the way, we made good progress to the mid-trip meeting coordinates we agreed earlier.

Rafael kindly provided us all with some lovely coffee to enjoy as we watched the newbie convoy approach from the distant horizon. Once all together the vehicles were arranged in an L pattern for some great photos.

Following our big group chat and pictures we headed off again on the second leg of our trip. We found some areas of very soft sand on this leg requiring a few second tries and a minor snatch recovery (more of a slow tow than a snatch) as we made our way back to the end point arriving on time.

All our intermediate drivers handled the terrain very well and it was a pleasure to spend the morning in your company.

Thank you Farhan for the solid 2nd lead and Tim for keeping a watchful eye on convoy progress as sweep.

Thanks Marshal Osama for posting that and allowing Rob and I manage the intermediates. Rob you picked an excellent track and a wonderful pace. Everyone in the convoy managed their vehicles well and we all enjoyed the morning.

Thank you Rob for the solid track & sharing with us tips on attacking the dunes.

The track & terrain required a good handling of the car more than the reliance on pure engine power, which I love.
