It was nice surprise to see such a big interest for the Sunday Special trip in Sweihan, organized by Marshal Scorpionita who just returned back to the UAE from Saudi. 11 drivers met up at the Sweihan Wedding Hall at 13:30 PM. Scorpionita met up with the convoy at the BBQ deflation point, making the cars count 12, consisting of the following excellent AD4x4 members:
Marshal: Scorpionita (Hadeel)
Explorer: Tompa-bjorka (Thomas)
Expert: Geert
Advance: Falcon83 (Mohammed)
Intermediates: Valkyrie (Hisham), Glamraft (Ahmed),
Newbies: Habayeb (Jay), Emad88 (Emad), HR-Eagle (Hazem), Rob_W (Robert),
Talal80 (Talal), Kamran143 (Kamran)
Also, with us as passenger we also had a photographer (Rech) who documented the trip using camera and a drone. We will see photos and clips shortly on the AD4x4 social media channels.
After being asked to take the lead of the trip (in absence of Marshal Hani who could not escape from work), I did briefing and we set up the convoy with Glamraft as second lead, Geert as sweeper in middle of convoy and Falcon_83 as back-of-convoy-sweeper, with the rest of the drivers positioned in between. After radio check the convoy took off in the smaller dunes, direction power lines. We took it easy initially with a few smaller straight crests, which gave the opportunities for some “stucks”, which also happened and we could get some smiles and practice on recoveries, hopefully well documented by the photographer.
After passing the power-lines, we headed towards the Nagra area and picked up the pace a bit as the dunes become bigger and better “flowing”. At around 16:30 we turned around and headed back, but going through terrain with bigger dunes also doing some modest climbs. Convoy was moving nicely, communication was very good from sweepers when someone needed 2nd try or a stuck, so we kept convoy together really well. 2nd lead Glamraft did a good job and changed the track a number of times as I navigated in to difficult terrain.
Well done all drivers, it was a very nice Sunday afternoon in Sweihan with safe fun driving, see you again soon. And thanks again to Scorpionita for organizing the trip.
