3 cars, 3 days and 1350 kms later we are home.
Mac & Gillian, Mpenzi & family & Ernie & family set off at 9am on Saturday 13th Oct. It took an hour to clear the border post at Hafit, then we drove for a couple of hours and stopped for a picnic beside Imri. The lunch break was cut short due to a sighting of a Sidewinder snake and a scorpion! We reached Nizwa late afternoon.
The Golden Tulip Hotel was good except for the meals
Sunday we visited Al Hoota caves, unknown to us you are supposed to book 24 hours in a advance, but due to the persuasion of Mrs Mpenzi we were allowed in, great fun for the children to see all of the stalactites and stalagmites.
We continued on through Wadi Gul and up Jabal Shams for some fabulous views of the Grand Canyon, passing Jabal Shams campsite en route, big ready erected Bedouin style tents with a double bed/ shower/wc in each!
Evening meal was at Pizza Hut in Nizwa, followed by an early night.
Monday morning we met Dutt & family at the hotel, then we visited Nizwa town & the old souk, all very interesting.
We then drove to Wadi Dham and explored all around that area, with the Oasis and irrigation channels, lunch in the Wadi then back to the border for another 45 minutes of fun!! Cars and bags searched by Customs, then a fast drive back to AD.
Stunning scenery and great company made this trip very worthwhile, thanks to everyone for your friendship and thanks to Mpenzi for 3 days sweeping!
