South African Brakah 4x4 Trail

Post by Avan »

Not being any where near a desert this weekend a wonderful oportunity came my way that I could not refuse

Took charge of Mitsubishi Colt 4x4 Double cab pick-up on an unbelievable trail in a small town called Parys. With a morning temp of 2 deg C at 7.30am we set off from my house. A quick stop to buy some meat and charcoal and we were having our 1st cup of coffee at the deflation point at the start of the trail at 8.30am

The difference between the "Desert" and the "High veld" soon became very appartent. Most driving is done in Low Range 1st & 2nd gear. Very technical driving and constantly having to watch the gaps on the sides of the 4x4 against trees and rocks and to pick a route that wont leave your front diff smashed against a bolder. A few water crossing and few pole bridges made the trip very interesting

The bird life was fantastic and we saw a number of Monkeys in the trees as well as hearing Baboons and Jackals close by. After a stop for a braai (BBQ) for lunch we set off again completing the trail at 15h00 before driving back home for a hot bath.

A special thanks to my tecnicians in South Africa on their leave cycle who are members of the "4x4community" who made this trip possible
