REPORT: Cruise in the sun

Post by scotchyl »

With the plan to cruise the dunes from Faya to Khatim the meeting was for 7am at Mahwi Station. We all (nearly) met on time but two early calls allowed those already there to catch up a bit longer before we departed for the deflation point (thank you for the notice).

We softened the tryes, raised the flags and had a briefing on the plan for the trip. The aim was to practice some skills and more about precision and not pace. everyone seemed to be keen to get some sand in their hair so we departed.

After a quick foray into the dunes we rejoined the catch, confronted by a caravan of camels. at this point the convoy grew by one as a four legged vehicle tagged along with us. quickly he realised the cars were no match for him and he left to join his own group. no overtaking was involved.

We reached the bigger dunes and started cruising through them at a good pace. some technical spots with ditches, crests and ridges kept everyone focused and the control of speed and cars improved throughout the trip. Reaching Khatim in very good time (v surprised) we decided to really stretch the legs and practice some skills on the higher dunes. You all did very well and clearly improved control of your cars, always remember to keep the nose down straight to the bottom.

Enforced breaks were required for tea (thank you so much Amjad) and biscuits with only one stuck and a couple of second tries, everyone seemed pleased with their mornings efforts, that we returned to the main road.

Thank you all for joining, it was a pleasure

Desert Storm - very good second lead, perfect changes of track, great distance to leaded, exactly as needed and I knew that convoy was in safe hands
Mosalft - you got the control and speed very well in the dunes, keep going, well done
Akhateeb - great to see you again and very well done in the trickier sections,
Blackbird - great to meet you, both car and driver did very well, keep growing those skills for sure
Amjad - glad to have you along, you are picking the skills well and improving, these skills will serve you well.
Hamour80 - great to have you on the trip, very cool and calm driving of the LC, looks so easy. hope you and your passenger enjoyed the cruise.

Tillybean - thank you for watching over the convoy and assisting when needed. great comfort knowing you were monitoring things and able to assist and advise when moments arose.

Have a good week and see you in the sand soon.
Focus on the future, that's where your life is going. Focus on the past and you will go nowhere.

Hi Andy, had bit of an Internet thing going on this week, and only just got back online. Very enjoyable trip, and very happy to meet a few new faces. Thanks for leading us along, and giving us the opportunity to learn and practice some new skills. Sam, thanks for the kind words of encouragement during and after the trip.
Cheers, Nigel
