New Member and New Resident of Abu Dhabi!

Post by stak1993 »

Hello everyone! So I just arrived in this interesting city and my 2012 Jeep JKU Rubicon is right behind me. I have a lot of experience driving off road, but virtually none of it is in the sand. So I am excited to learn from the experts here.

I was wondering about a few things:

1. Insurance, who is the best and how much can I expect to pay?
2. I need to get the Jeep serviced, it was in need of an oil change when it went into the container.
3. Where can I get modifications done? I need a new bumper and winch for starters.
4. Any weird UAE rules I need to be aware of concerning the jeep and driving off road? Yes I plan on doing all of my beginner trips with you wonderful folks!

That is about it. I am super excited to meet everyone and begin my adventure!

Hi Scott,

welcome to the UAE and to Abu Dhabi! Very nice to see that you are enthusiastic and bringing your experience along with you. For now i can only confirm that every drive with AD4x4 is indeed an adventure and so much fun. You will meet so many people, all 4x4 enthusiasts who are always willing to share their advise, garage connections or modification feedback.

Many people can give you advise here and one of the first things I can advise is to use the search function of the forum; many questions and many answers have been posted on a wide range of subjects. I'll help you on the way with what i know:

1. See here: http://www.ad4x4.com/club/viewtopic.php ... =insurance
2. See here (note that i have an FJ so there might be fellow Jeep owners who can give you better advice): http://www.ad4x4.com/club/viewtopic.php ... eep+garage (some of the club members own a garage and can support you as well)
3. See here: http://www.ad4x4.com/club/viewtopic.php ... ifications I had my mods/repairs done with ARB in Mussafah (compressor) and Ramy4x4 in Dubai (shocks); i can highly recommend both. Don't forget to mention that you are a club member for negotiation purposes.
4. Weird rules...: in general if you apply common sense you will get far; other than that: the yearly car (safety) inspection poses (strict) rules on modifications (you can read more on this forum), additional lights need to be officially covered when driving on the road, don't keep your flag pole up or your light bars on on the public road), and i'm sure there is much more.

For (AD4x4) offroad rules and tips, check this out and read through the document (it is half the knowledge you need to know ;) ): http://www.ad4x4.com/club/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=24764

During gatherings you can check the mods of fellow members and ask as many questions as you want.

Feel welcome to come by for a coffee if you are around; i live in Al Reef (so do a lot of other club members).

Cheers and see you in the sand!
